    Head Gasket 6.1

Want to know about the factory head gasket. Type or style? Thickness? etc. I was surprized went taking the 5.7 apart that they used a MLS gasket and the prices is great. See the 6.1 gasket listed at about $18.00.

The 6.1 gasket is the same type as the 5.7. I am not sure about the thickness. You should use the head gaskets that match the block, not the heads.

The 5.7 gasket bore is like 3.94 while the 6.1 head is 4.10 in diameter. The gasket would hang out in the combution camber. I am putting a 6.1 head on.

Are you using 5.7 gaskets when installing 6.1 heads? That would put the outer edge of the fire ring in an area were no part of the head was compressing it. This has been woking good for you?

the 6.1L gaskets are the same R/L. the 5.7L gaskets are different R/L. pretty sure coolant passages are different.

    .020 crushed

    we like the gaskets too

We also don't see any real benifit in running the 6.1 head on the 5.7..........we can get a 5.7 to flow higher than the 5.7 ever needs.

THe coolant passages and I think the oil passages are different. I have run the 6.1 head on the 5.7 block and gasket no problem, and Jerry is running 5.7 heads on a 6.1 block with 6.1 gaskets no problem either.

We also have access to custom Cometic gaskets for the HEMI if needed, but they are not cheap!

Had Both heads on the bench and the 5.7 gasket. There is no, repeat no difference between the two heads as far as coolant or oil or any other passages go. The only difference is the diameter of the combustion chamber, roughly .160. The head should dictate what gasket to use to avoid mismatch other than puting a 5.7 head on a 6.1 block. In response to MomsRT, 5.7 head with $1500 plus porting equals 317 cfm. 6.1 head bought for $900 for the pair and fifteen minutes of porting per runner equals 318 cfm. If I ever(and I will) want to go bigger, 6.1 head can be upgrade, 5.7 can't. Plus the fact that 6.1 head is 10 cc's smaller, more compression easier.

Where can you get a pair of 6.1 heads for $900? I have seen them for $800 a piece but never $900 for both. Please post a link as I am looking for a set, thanks.

ill put moniey on the heads that momsr/t is talking about holding its own to any 6.1 head in flow up to 450 lift. thats the point with the 6.1 that it starts to pull away.
thats with a 2.00 inch intake valve as the 6.1 runs a 2.080.

ive had em both on the bench, i know.

the port window is much larger on the 6.1, absolute huge. the bowls on the two heads are within .020 of each other.

cant argue witht he comprerssion bump, thats a good idea and is easier.

If you look at the new mopar parts web sight they list for 417.00. Just told the guy that had them 900 or i'll wait and by for 834.00. As I have said before, I don't like these people who are trying to rip us. Every day there are more and more of these being buildt. I would probably like the 5.7 head to on a driver, but when you leave at 5500 to 6000, low and mid range (drivability) kind of go out the window!!!

all 6.1 parts are like that. if you know some one in canada its a diferant story or some one local who can "work" the system.

I can get all of the 6.1 restricted parts. They are a little more expensive, since the guy I get them from gets a cut, but they can be had. I am told I might have a few complete 6.1 engines available soon but we are waiting until my guy has them in hand before I will know for sure.

I should be able to do a complete set of new stock 6.1 heads for $900 + shipping.

If you run the 6.1 gasket on the 5.7 block you will get a nasty coolant leak because the 6.1 heads gaskets don't line up with the water passages on the 5.7 block.

The 5.7 has seperate gaskets for each side, and the 6.1 does not. So 6.1 gaskets would be like running 2 passenger (or driver) side gaskets.

What part of the 5.7 head can't be upgraded?

Also we have a 5.7 stroker to 370 with stock 5.7 gaskets and 6.1 heads running 10.8:1 compression with no detonation making over 400 rwhp/tq.
