Got the VON # on a Magnum SRT-8 today.

(FYI - Sorry for re-posting. This is an updated compilation of posts from other forums today)

Just got a print out from the dealer with my VON # on a new SRT-8 Magnum. Brilliant Black Cyrstal Pearl Coat with every available option. I'm going down ASAP to give them a deposit. There is an option listed as "Ocean Tie Down" (Equipment code XES) on the order that the dealer had no idea as to what it is. Was a no-charge item. Anyone have an idea of what that is? The tires are listed as P245/45ZR20 AS Performance Tires. The dealer thought this was an upgrade too but there was no price so I guess that's what they all have. There is no Gas Guzzler up-charge on the Magnum as there is on the 300C SRT-8. Guess what? No roof rack available on the SRT-8s! Saved me the time to delete that option.

I had been working with a dealer about 50 miles from home that said he would sell me one @ MSRP. When the cars came available to order this week I called and the guy wouldn't/hasn't returned my calls or e-mails. Got pissed this morning and started calling all the local dealers again and bought one for MSRP within 10 miles of home! I hope the other guy calls me back now!

You won't believe this. When I finally got the FAX from the dealer with the VON number, it had two rows of pricing. MSRP & FWP. I finally figured out that the FWP meant Fleet Wholesale Price. Now, I understand that there is more mark-up than this price but I couldn't figure out why it was printed out on my copy. So me and a buddy run down there with a deposit check and meet the Fleet Manager. Nice guy. We're sitting there and he asks me what price was I quoted by so & so. (now no longer with the company guy) I really had not spoken with anyone and told him that I had not been quoted a price yet and started to ready myself for the "bad news". He laughs and says, "Well, it's going to cost you $1000.00 over". Now I'm saying to myself, I'm ready to fly to Portland to pick up a car. $1000.00 over doesn't sound that bad. Then he says, that's $1000.00 over FWP! Well, guess what? I just bought the 1st SRT-8 that this dealer has ordered "sold" for about $1600.00 under MSRP! It was all I could do to not jump over the desk and kiss this guy! Nice guy, no hassle. Not the biggest dealer in the area though and he told me some horror stories about delivery on the first RT's last year. Said it was months before he got the cars he ordered. He said that DMC promised that they were going to remedy that this year but he said he could not promise a delivery date but that he would call the DM and would get back to me next week.

They had a black RT on the showroom floor with a custom hood with a scoop and louvers with 20" (may have been 22's. I was still euphoric at that point) black spoked wheels, eye brow on the back. It also had DVD monitors on the headrests that stuck out about 2" and looked, as my buddy that's not into Magnums like us said, an afterthought. They had a bunch of RTs in stock and he said they were having a hard time moving them. Said he had a "fully loaded" RT that you could get in the low 30's. I went out in the lot and I saw a bunch of RT's with aftermarket wheels and tires sitting there. Looks like anyone looking for a 2005 RT should be able to wheel-and-deal right now.

Anyway, I have the print-out of the prices on the option packages in hand now if anyone has any questions. I should have my VIN # next week and will start going through all of the stress that I have watched a bunch of you go through over the last year. BTW, he couldn't supply me with an SRT-8 brochure. Said DMC told him they're not making that many anyways so they're not going to print any more. I guess all of the E. Coast dealers got them. I may just have to spend that $4.99 plus $4.95 shipping on e-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...sspagename=WDVW to get one to sleep with. I'll start saving up for that now!

The All-season tires are listed as a no-charge option for the 300C, I expect they are for the Magnum, too. I want the summer-only tires, myself.

You've got me thinking aboug fleet pricing, I'm going to see if the dealer that does the Costco program will offer me a Magnum SRT-8 at their fleet pricing. It's worth a try.

QZ, I guess you must know someone in high places. I talked to my local dealership today and they said the dealership owners are scarfing up the limited amount of SRT models being built, meaning they are buying them for personal cars. My dealer told me there are only 300 being built of each 300 and Magnum.
Each region is alotted one SRT model. It will be rare if we ever see one sitting on a lot for sale.

    Tedman5,

Trust me when I say that I don't know anyone in high places, but I know of several people (on various message boards) who have placed orders on the Magnum SRT8. Whether or not any of us actually end up with a car or not, I guess we will just have to wait and see...

I originally visited my dealer in early March and told them I wanted to buy a Magnum SRT8. They immediately said that if I was willing to put a $500 deposit down, they would get me one.

When ordering opened up last week, I went in and placed my order. While placing my order, I asked the inventory manager if my order was dependant on dealer allocation and he said no because they were submitting the order as a "sold vehicle". I can't really say if he's telling the truth or not, but so far I don't have a reason to doubt them...

My hope is that I'll actually get the car in 2-3 months...

I would say that if you are interested in getting one, try visiting or calling several dealers in your area and see what they say.

This is a singular report. Do you have any reason to doubt statements made by your dealer? Please be assured that I do not doubt that were were told that, however, it does not make any sense based on what other information has been reported.

    DonE,
I've heard from several people that have been able to order the SRT8 and, at least one other @ FWP +. The FWP on my particular order with every available option was $2623.00 less than MSRP so I saved $1623.00. Another person paid +2K over FWP. We havn't received our cars at the agreed upon price yet but until I hear different I am assuming that the dealer that took my deposit will live up to our agreed upon selling price. I have had several dealers contact me willing to sell me @ MSRP but I did a lot of leg (internet) work in advance and had contacted over 50 dealers. If you do the work I think you'll get the car for MSRP.

    IMHO!

I asked about production numbers and somebody posted that there would be 1000. I find that number hard to believe and I definitely don't believe there will be only 300 of each built.

I agree that dealer info is sometimes shotty. I was only trying to pass on what my local dealer had told me. Sorry if I interrupted anyone's dream.

Please post whatever you have regarding the brochure. I am sure that we would all like to see it.

    CanMan,
I just got confirmation that I was the high (and only) bidder on a 2005 SRT8 brochure. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ay_Pr4_PcY_BIN. Spent $43K with my dealer and he couldn't get me one. I ended up paying $7.49 for it with shipping.

I also was the high and only bidder on a copy of a 2003 Car & Driver issue with the Magnum SRT8 on the cover. ($4.45 with shipping) I figure I'll seal these in vinyl along with my personalized window sticker, just-in-case these things become collector's items down the road. It certainly has to be worth a couple of bucks to the next owner when you have this stuff, along with all of the service and upgrades history and every receipt for same, which I've kept on all my cars.

    Or I'm just annal!

    Dear lord,
I have the dealer & contact name at work I believe. I live in So. Cal. but started working dealers all over the West Coast to buy one @ MSRP when the SRT8's got close to being able to order. This guy was willing to make that deal.

Maybe we can meet in Vegas, Vegas, Vegas...... when "the rev" get's his Magnum. (The "rev" reference refers to another post. If you're not familiar with that deal, I won't go into details!) We'll definately "leave a little rubber on the street".

Anyway, send me an e-mail to kenny@quartzsitervshow.com this weekend and I'll drop you that info on Monday when/if I go ino the office.

Timberline doesn't ring a bell however you have to factor in that I was your age during the 60's, so there is a lot of short and long term memory damage up there. I may go by the office today and look for it but e-mail me anyway on Monday in case I forget why I went to the office.
