Over in the General LX Discussion section there is this very interesting thread... Link
(Thnx to Brikar on chargerforums and to jackiert of LX forums for relaying the info here)
It's about disabling ESP/BAS by turning the ignition key to "start" while the vehicle is in motion.
I tried it ('07 MSRT) and this is what I found...
First, normal operation using the ESP button on the dash. If I depress it, all I see is this...
Now instead of just depressing the ESP button, I depress/hold it down for 5-8 seconds, I hear a chime and I see...
And
And after 3-4 seconds, the above changes to...
K, next I turn off the car to clear the ESP/BAS deactivation. Go for a drive and while cruising at 20-30mph, I simply turn the ignition key to the "start" position (no, the starter will NOT engage/grind...) for about 2-3 seconds, I hear the chime, and I see this...
And NOTHING mentioning ESP/BAS here...
So, in a nutshell, I have 2 ways to disable ESP/BAS...
1. Press and hold ESP button for 5-8 seconds, hear chime, See "squiggly/car" ONLY and see "ESP System Deactivated", followed shortly by "ESP off" on the EVIC.
2. While traveling 20-30mph, I turn the key to the "start" position for 2-3 seconds, I hear the chime, NO info is related in the EVIC and I see "ESP", "BAS" and the squiggly/car lit in the temp gauge pod.
FWIW, it doesn't seem to matter which way I disable ESP/BAS, my car seems to react the in same manner.
The only difference I see, is that using the key method is quicker...
BTW, in my car, I cannot seem to be able to do a good "in-place" burnout with ESP/BAS disabled. The only way I can get a decent burnout is to disable, power-brake enough to get the wheels spinning and then let off the brake completely to get the tires to burn up to second gear...
That, and I never get second gear chirpies...
Sorry for the long post, nonetheless, I would like to hear what ya all are experiencing...
