Check out the results of my coolant tsb!

On monday morning, I dropped off my 300C SRT8 at Birmingham Chrysler in Troy, MI for a few simple repairs. The car was spotless. I've always thought that if you bring the car to them in immaculate condition they will have more respect for it, and as a result treat the car better. I printed off the coolant bulletin and the rotor tsb, and provided them to the service rep. Both had pretty explicit instructions on how to perform the repairs. It took them 2 days (from 8am Monday to 5:30pm Tuesday) to do the coolant gunk tsb, rotor tsb and fix the trans o-ring leak. After waiting that long, I expected everything to be perfect. Not the case.

After two full days at the dealer and many lies about why it wasn't completed yet, I go to pick it up. The car is FILTHY (coolant residue and fingerprints everywhere), and the coolant is grossly overfilled! Also, they didn't replace the pads so the brakes are for crap until the pads flatten out. I was hoping that the coolant only appeared over filled because the engine was hot, so I decided to drive it home. As it turns out, the coolant was so overfilled that it started blowing steam from under the hood on the way home from the dealer. The overflow bottle filled up and it started squirting coolant all over the engine and exhaust.

Here's a pic to show what an awesome job they did of cleaning out that coolant system. (intake removed for a better picture). Obviously they didn't clean or replace the coolant bottle.

I'm sorry this isn't a very well thought out post, but I'm too angry to make more sense of it right now. Tomorrow I will wash the car and determine how many new dings, scratches and wheel gouges there are.

Avoid Birmingham Chrysler in Troy, MI!

I know they flushed it because the coolant was a solid milky color when I dropped it off (not to mention there's coolant EVERYWHERE in the engine compartment). I don't know, however, whether or not they back-flushed it like they were supposed to. I totally agree that it's not even remotely fixed. I can't believe it took them 2 days and that was the result.

I really wish I had a dealer I trusted. It seems like every dealer in the metro Detroit area (and beyond) has completely screwed me.

That's very good to hear. Thanks for the tip. At this point I'd be willing to drive to Grand Rapids if I knew they were going to treat my car like they should.

Maybe I'll call Hall and see how they can help me fix what Birmingham screwed up.

Ha! Yeah, I will be out there... However somehow I think I'll have less of a good time if I'm hanging out with all of you guys in my loaner while the car's at the dealer.

Ill try to NOT take that as an insult

Good luck, seriously, that dealer has some HUGE problems if it takes them almost 3 weeks to do something relatively simple. (if you come in a rental that is)

Check the labor bill, did they replace the reservoir??? They should have. That sucks. I'm glad I'm not the only one that got an engine bay full of coolant spots though ;-)

They didn't claim to replace it. It's not on the bill. Apparently to them there was no need. I mean, that one looks good as new! Right?

WOW, sorry about your experience. My dealer fixed mine in one day. I love my dealer's service dept. they're called Dependable Dodge... the head guy is great and everyone there has been top notch. There was only a little coolant residue in the engine bay. I cleaned it up no problem, and they replaced the reservior too.

Good luck, you should definatley get it done again...

Find the service manager, stake him out.

Follow him home one night and see where he lives. Sleep in your car until he leaves for work the next morning.

Gain entry into his home and snatch his dog.

Cut off the dog's head and place it on butcher's paper in your back seat (don't forget the butcher's paper... don't wanna mess up the leather).

Bring the car back and ask for him specifically. Ask him to take it for a quick test drive and to inspect the car completely. When he discovers the severed dog head whisper to him that he has a pretty wife.

You'll never have an issue again.

    LOL

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles man, that REALLY sucks. I would just file a complaint and then find another dealer to visit from now on.
