In case there was any question...

...I can vouch that the SRT8 is faster than the GTO.
Had an opportunity yesterday to line up with one at a light.
I let him open up before I got on it. His exhaust was impressive but I only heard it for about 1 sec. before I was past him. He turned off the road at the first chance he got so I never got to talk to him.
    Love this ride!

    great kill

great kill. I have eaten a little goat in my area too.

Just don't forget that they turn very competitive quarter mile times with a good driver and minor mods. They're not all going to be pushovers!

    I didn't know there was a variety!
What caught my attention on his ride was the 6.0 badge on the trunk.
    What variations are there?

I think the slow goats had 5.7's. Lot of goat owners don't know how to shift their cars, or get a good launch. Roast goat= tasty.

I ate one up at E-Town last year.I think the automatic GTO's are alot slower too.But even a good driver in a GTO and it will be a close race either way.

Just a hair faster than an R/T....maybe....with the right driver. There have been plenty of reports of R/T drivers beating 5.7 GTO's.

They may be fast and all, but they still look like a GrandAm or something. Cavalier on steroids? Not nearly as cool a car as ANY LX.

I killed a 6.0 GTO on the interstate, I was ahead of him by 1 car length and he didn't have the balls to go over 120mph.

I heard that a goat owner was going to race 1bad4dr in march. Both are modded, and both are over 500 RWHP. they will be videoing the event, so when that happens, i will post.

I think the 1st year goat was 350 horses --
2nd year up to current are 400 horses (and I take it these may be the "fast" GTO's)

The LS2 is an awesome engine: Easy to mod, and very reliable. IMHO, it's one of the best production engines ever made.

As for the brakes on the GTO? Crap. I test drove two of them and they both sucked in the braking dept.
Handling? Not bad. Could use a better wheel/tire package.
Interior fit and finish? Top notch, subjectively much nicer inside than the SRT8.
Transmission? Sloppy shifter in 6speed form, slush-o-rama in auto.
If this car had the Corvette 6 speed paddle shifter, we would not be having this discussion. And if the SRT8 came with a six-speed, we would CERTAINLY not be having this discussion!!

Exterior? Awful! Although this is subjective, I will agree that the car looks like a jelly bean on acid, however considering what you get for less than the price of a stock R/T, it could be tempting for someone with a tight budget who was in the market for a hi-perf car. Buy a GTO brand new for 26 grand, and with an extra 2 or 3 grand, you can solve the brake issue and do some nice mods. Even with that, you are still under 30 grand. Wait for the next gen GTO, it should be much improved. Chally vs. Mustang vs. GTO... that will be fun to watch. It's like the late 60's all over again!

Finally, will a stock GTO 6.0 beat an SRT8? Tough call. Probably depends on the driver. I would say on a good day, the answer would be no. Weight-wise, the Charger has a few hundred more pounds, but the extra 25hp combined with a superior chasis on the SRT8 would be a wash in the worst case scenario. Normal case scenario, the SRT8 will beat a GTO, but not by much.

BTW: a 6.0 GTO should have zero problems killing a stock R/T.
