    Cam install w/ stock heads

I've only seem to be able to find people that have installed them and done ported heads/intake at the same time. Just wondering if its even worth swapping the stock srt cam out while keeping stock heads/intake.

What cam?A basic Comp 268 will give you 20hp at the wheels. When you start going bigger head work will compliment the cam you run.

I asked the same question a week or so ago...You can gain 20-35RWHP at the wheels with a mild cam only swap. (More if you have access to tuning software)

Thankfully there is no need to pull the heads either, the HEMI's are like the LS1s with lifter retainer clips.

    I am looking at a 216/224 114LSA cam or a 216/230 114LSA cam for my otherwise stock SRT8.

The new PPP stage two heads look awesome and should give great gains as well.

I haven't decided what lobe to use yet but it'll be no more than ~.550 lift. 4 degrees advance as well for both cams.

Stock manifolds, and magnaflow highflow cats with stock catback.

Still crunching the numbers but its going to be in that range...

Careful... Because the lifters sit almost horizontal in the block, it is possible to spin the cam to push the lifters back and remove the cam. But the lifter keepers will not prevent the lifters from potentially creeping back and preventing the cam re-install, or worse, falling in to the block.

You can run alot of cam on the stock springs. Not sure what the limit is but it's quite a bit.The FRI Hellfire would work very nice with the stock heads and springs.About the same size as the 268 but a bit more computer friendly.

You can buy, rent or build a tool to help hold up the lifters. Pen magnets can also work as well. I'll see what I can find on the HEMI platform and post back.

I ran the 268 on a stock PCm for a few month's.....it took a bit of learning but the PCM finally got it.I believe a Hellfire would run quite well on the stock PCM if it were taught properly.
As far as install goes it can be anywhere from $400-$1000 depending on the installer.

I have a PPP Road Warrior cam installed with stock heads, springs, et all. I have not tried to run it with the stock computer as I had a B&G Stage II added at the same time. (Diablo custom tune next) Car runs and idles great and I do not plan on changing the heads any time soon, if at all. The installer said that (as well a noted cam grinder) that our stock heads are great and there is really no need to change them out unless you are going with some SERIOUS mods. The cams that are being cut for these engines are relatively small compared to an LS1/LS2 cam grinds and the two things that hold us back from going more agressive are true tuning and the springs. Not my individual opinion; as I have heard this more times than not. Our heads are more than capable of handling more aggressive cams, thus able to make great power. I will go more aggressive with a custom ground cam through PPP once we get the tuning piece and going with PSI springs.(if I can get them without buying heads) At that point, all I will then add are longtube headers.

Have you run this combo at the track yet? What kind of 1/4 mile ET's are you running?
