    Beat by a Challenger!

Okay, okay, it's not a new one like I know you were thinking. Actually, the wife and I went out for a little race and I quickly found out just how quick my '70 Chally really is. It walked away from the SRT without much effort.

Now I'm happy for Chally, but depressed that the SRT didn;t do better. Mixed emotions aren't fun.

Guess I shouldn't feel badly about getting beat by a classic Mopar!

The numbers for a stock 70 Challanger:

    R/T 440-6: 0-60 in 6.2 seconds, 1/4 mile in 13.7 seconds @ 105 mph.

Perhaps he wasn't quite stock. You should have been able to stay with him and a lot of SRT8's are faster than that.

A lot of people assume that the old muscle cars were really fast, yes for their time, but not by today's standards.

Aaah did you all catch the jest of this...

"the wife and I went out for a little race and I quickly found out just how quick my '70 Chally really is. It walked away from the SRT without much effort."

Sometimes it would be best to "Lose" to gain some...

A good excuse as any for modifications to start ?

    mild

I would rather have the 440 over the 426 in any regular drag race, as it's a real stump puller. Just a few mild mods and it's an easy 500 ft pounds of torque.

With that said, sure sounds to me like the SRT was poorly driven or not participating.

Who said the Challenger was stock? It's obviously not.

    You guys crack me up.

How does the wife drive??? It's an automatic. Aside from feathering the throttle to gain max traction off the line, she can hold the pedal to the floor with the best of them!

The Challenger is another story. It's a 4-sp and is desperately out of tune. It's also about 550hp (at the crank) when tuned correctly, so no it's not exactly factory stock. It weighs 3550 vs. the SRT's 4200, true. Based on the race results, the Chally is probably about 50 hp out of tune, which is what I was thinking anyway.

Either way it still had plenty to pull away pretty stongly.

I watched a beautiful 440 6pack white "Vanishing Point Challenger" get beat by a stock SRT6 at NEDW last fall. They both ran low 13's as I recall.
