    Thumbs up 6.1 Header Results

    Hi Everyone,

We Have been working with Kooks to develop a Header package for the SRT8 6.1 and the 5.7

This has been quite the hot topic, so we have 2 SRT 8's currently as GSM Test Vehicles and a SRT Charger coming (D1 Status).

We had the one of the first sets, the problem was we had installed them as soon as we got our hot little hands on them and we worked with magnaflow to make the custom 3" mid pipes with the ultra high flow metallic cats

Everyone has seen the 300c Supercharged and it was kinda hard to go backwards on that vehicle to do an accurate test so we lined up the bone stock Magnum SRT8(1510 mi) and did a dyno run for a base line

1ST Run is no mods at all dead stock .

2ND Run is the addition of the Kook's 1.7/8" primiary headers only,
    stock exhaust.

As we were test driving the Magnum we felt the power difference right away and the dyno numbers confirmed a nice gain in torque and horse power and the 2nd run has better numbers from start to finish, not just a little here or there. We will be dynoing the addition of the Magnaflow exhaust in the morning to see what is left on the table vs the stock exhaust.

We wanted to get numbers on the 6.1 without a blower of course, now that being said the addition of a Supercharger will only benifit more with the added flow. I think the debate on the primary size is now a Dead issue with the gains seen on the 1.7/8" primary design.

See Attached dyno graphs 26.6 rwhp and 36.1 lbs of TQ

Great gains, Kooks & GSM. 26.6 rwhp and 36.1 lbs rwtq is most impressive, Scott!

Can't wait to see your runs with the Magnaflows - we may well be seeing 400+ rwhp, exhaust mods only, next week.

Kooks has been doing headers for me since the mid 80's. Always a quality product. Never a problem with them, and they do one of a kinds like no one else. Now I'm trying to figure out why I didnt just drive over to them over buying the Dynatechs. See them at www.kookscustomheaders.com

We installed the Magnaflow lastnight and we did make the dyno today

Let me first say that the sound of the Headers and the Magnaflow Exhaust is Awesome, sounds very crisp at startup and is quiet with no resonance when crusing, but when you get in to the Gas the sound is very Aggressive and in my opnion fits the Vehicle perfectly.

Now the dyno showed a slight increase in peak hp and a much smoother line on the dyno while we lost .9 lbs of torque we gained 6.5 hp to a new best of 393.2 rwhp. Also the high end power near redline showed more torque and hp higher in the RPM band.

    See attached Dyno Sheet

    Scott,

How complicated is the header install? Is this something any muffler guy can handle? Thanks.

Are these tests with the stock intake? Just wonder if unplugging the front end would help any. Despite all of the talk of CAI's not doing much on in the area of HP, it would be nice to know.

For what it is worth, the factory sponsored SRT8's that show up in races use the Mopar CAI.

So the next dyno with this same vehicle will be with a supercharger on it? Too bad you couldn't throw a K&N aircharger system on there first to see the gains a SRT8 owner could see without the s/c

    Thumbs up

The header install is not Technicaly difficult but will take you about 6 hours

a normal muffler shop will be able to do the install

The 6.1's have a much more free flowing intake than the 5.7's, we have tested no air intake period on the 6.1 and only saw a 5 hp gain
