    September 2009 LXOM: Matt Robertson

Well, I have to say I am doubly surprised.

I was surprised when I saw my name on the ballot for LXOM. I've been so busy lately I missed the nomination phase completely. There was a little private teasing in the staff forum over it, and then I promptly forgot about the whole thing, figuring someone else would win. After all, I had one LXOM once before in July of 2006 and figured I'd had my run. Plus it took like 10 nominations to win on the first go round. If I was in the running again I figured it'd be at least 2010 before a win. And if all that wasn't enough, I was up against some pretty good guys.

So I forgot all about it. Then CoolVanilla texted me this morning with congratulations and a few (relatively) good-natured insults. I was absolutely floored.

Well, thanks to everybody. Your kind thoughts are appreciated.

Like I said back in 2006, 18 months into owning the car:

More than three years later that is still true today. Just for different reasons.

The friends I had met and spoke of warmly then remain friends today. Time has aged those friendships well, and they continue both on and off the forums. If anything this is a testimony to LXForums and the quality of the folks that hang around. If you are new here, or not so new, this is what you have to look forward to as well.

Who remembers when and where this pic was taken?

    GIFO1. June 2005.

    Or this one?

3:30 am. April 2006. Somewhere in LA. Gassing up with fatchance (remember those wheels?... I'll bet you a dollar fatchance doesn't) just prior to the *infamous* Arizona Banzai run to the Pavilions to see how Meister was doing.

I took another picture of the whole gang 15 minutes later.

Whose idiot idea was it to leave so damn early???

How infamous was the Infamous Arizona Banzai Run?

One hell of a lot more than I intend to admit to... but one thing is for sure....

NOT ONE of us will go on a road trip ever again without at least two rolls of duct tape.

    Ever.

So ... how is my writeup going so far? Too much with the pictures? The sig rules changed a few years back and my really nice ones haven't seen the light of day since, so I thought I would toss in a few. I miss the big sigs. Boo hoo. I have to say this writeup is not exactly coming easy. I'm a lot better at writing (endlessly) about how some stupid part came flying off as I whipped around Turn 9. Again. And what I'm going to do about it. This time. Or running around putting temperature probes up in places that have never been, well, probed before... and yapping away about how the incredible just occurred: I've just discovered that it gets hotter under the hood.

This, however, is not one of those kinds of writeups. So I am kinda screwed.

Butweet's mirror mod is still one of my favorites.

Maybe I can fudge it some more and point to past miracles. There was the time when, via intrepid research, we discovered that an LX is faster than a police helicopter

    The Mods 5 Face-off : A cop, a helicopter and a roadblock.

Boy I sure am glad there was no street racing rule back then, huh? No way would that thread have lasted.

I wasn't smart enough to learn my lesson from that. It took the Christmas Porsche episode to scare me clean off the road and totally onto the track... forever.

Flew Past a Porsche and boy are my arms tired

Its amazing what a bottle of wine and a car not heading to the crusher does for your creative writing ability.

Well, those two events set the stage for what has become an obsession... one I am more or less happy to uh ... Obssess over. I'm running on the race track all the time now. I see a hell of a lot of spiffy little sports cars, and even supercars. But I have to admit when people come up to me and say hi their cars sort of run together...

... but you can bet everyone remembers the Hearse From Hell.

    Everybody?

    Yes EVERYBODY!

Through it all, no matter what, I would never be where I am with this car -- assuming it would be running at all -- without the help and support I get from you all... the racing team at LXForums.

Driving these cars is a team sport. We've got an unfair advantage here.

    Thanks everybody!

If that don't sum up the whole of your LXF persona, I dunno what does.

    Gratz buddy.

Congrats on the win! Love all the pictures and all the hard work that goes into your write ups. I've spent many a night in airports waiting for flights going back and rereading your threads.

Congrats, Matt. Your Laguna Seca track videos are some of the best stuff ever posted on this site. It is awesome to follow you and the monster around the track as you aim to lower and lower the LX record around that track.

I sure do like the way you talk, even when you're talking about what you're not sure what to talk about.

Congrats on the repeat, Matt! Just as well-earned this time as the last.
