LXOM!?!? WTF?!?
Uhhhh… Wow… I am truly flattered to be awarded LXOM. I have some pretty prestigious company. Thanks to all of you who actually thought I deserved it.
Danny Anderson; aka: DannyBoy; aka: Chuck; aka: The Grinch… Who the HELL is this guy?
Well, I’m of Irish heritage, growing up in Vancouver, BC, where my Gramps & Nan chose to set up shop after leaving the troubles of the Homeland behind them. I was born on Canada’s 100th Birthday, pretty much sealing the deal that they made the right choice by landing here.
I grew up loving cars, bikes, lawnmowers, blenders… anything that had some type of motor in it. Had a step dad who wasn’t a whole hell of a lot of good for anything, except for having a bunch of old wrecked cars parked out in the backyard, that were free game for learning how to turn wrenches on.
He was a Chevy guy, and it truly burned his hide that I had a love for those bright coloured, big winged DAYTONA’s from the early 70’s.
“You’ll never park one of those ugly cars in my yard…” I remember his miserable old A$$ bellowing at me… We’ll see.
Fast forward a few years… A stint in the Military, some world traveling, a good job in the Hydro Electric field… Ended by a drunk driver, who pulled an illegal U-turn in front of me, while I was riding one of my Harley’s down the road.
After a couple of year’s worth of rehab, getting both of my legs to work again, I ended up managing a Harley-Davidson Dealership for a few years. The old man sold the dealership, and the new owner’s kicked me out to the curb…
Ended up being offered a position at a Chrysler Dealership, by a friend of a close friend, whom just so happened to own one.
Here I am today… Wholesale Manager at Coquitlam Chrysler.
My first LX was a 2005 300 touring. Instantly fell in love with the platform. Loved my 300. Put some 22’ rims on her, tinted the windows. Awesome.
Then I started seeing the Chargers trickle in.
Then a gentleman rolled in a Detonator Yellow Super Bee. This man would end up becoming a friend of mine. David Somerset (Mean Bee). It was the first Bee that I had ever laid my eyes on. Wow. David and I chatted for over an hour that day. He showed me everything on that car.
About that same time we got our first Daytona at the Dealership. A GOMANGO… #92. She was on the showroom floor for exactly 3 days before a guy and his wife came in and looked at it. I walked up and said Hi. He looked at me and said, “THAT is a NICE car…” I asked him if he wanted to write it up, and he said, “Yup.”
This Gentleman turned out to be Doug Spencer (King Mango) and his wife, Deb, who are now very good friends of mine. Doug actually let me drive his new Daytona home to his house, from the Dealership that day.
I was done. I had to have a Charger. One of the High Impact colours, that I had so loved in my formative years.
I was at work on February 24 2007. I was at my desk, when a car carrier came around the corner. On the top of the truck, there was this super fluorescent green glow… My jaw dropped as the truck lumbered to a stop in front of the Dealership. THAT was the ONE!
I ran outside and climbed up on the truck looking in through the window. She was #17. (St.Patrick’s Day is March 17) That was my car.
I got the keys off the truck driver, and backed her off the deck myself, and drove her around to the detail bay, where she was cleaned for the show room.
I went into the GM’s office and told him I wanted that car. He said I could have it, but that I had to let it sit on the floor for 3 months before he’d let me take it at employee pricing. WTF?
I pulled her into the showroom and parked it next to my office, where I could keep my eye on it. I put a deposit on it and made sure I told everyone that got near it that it was sold.
One guy that was in looking at buying her was Oscar Joseph (Teamo). Thank God he went and bought Sweetness (His Cool Vanilla 300c) instead.
I sold a lot of SRT8 and R/T Chargers over those 3 months, switching people who might be interested her.
May 24th 2007, I pulled her out of the showroom and bolted the tags on her.
The following weekend I met up with some folks from the LXFORUMS who my friend at work had heard about from someone he had sold a Magnum to… Dwight Marples (Dwight/Mandy), more close friends of mine from the LXFORUMS.
I try to get to as many shows that I can south of the border so that I can hang with all my LXFORUMS friends… I’d start rattling names off, but I’d miss too many.
I am planning a road trip on the old Route 66, right from Chicago to Santa Monica, hopefully next summer. That would be absolutely epic. My dream vacation… And I’d get to meet all the friends I have made here.
Thank you all, once again. You are all such a big part of my life.
