LXOM
I must say that this award means a lot to me. Much more that I would have anticipated. So thank you very much to every one who nominated and voted for me. This whole experience brings a smile to my face every time I think about it. Too cool.
And to the other members who were so rightfully nominated, and those that need to be nominated, I'm going to work to make sure you all get your moment of "glory" as well.
I joined this forum in September 2005, after lurking for a number of months. Come to think of it, I had never been much of a "joiner". In fact, for most of my life I've dwelled at the outer fringe of polite society. Not that I ever was anti-social. Quite the contrary. I could always conduct myself appropriately in social settings. But from the earliest age I have been happier as an observer rather than a willing participant in any group endeavor.
But this LX Forums was something else. I could feel a real sense of kinship with people who were posting about their rides (or their dog, or their spouse, or their day at work, or the bump on their big toe, or a weird thought they just had). People that I had no "logical" inherent affinity with, nothing really in common with at all – apart from a certain nuttiness about our LX – were becoming REAL friends.
While not being given to mystical leanings, on many occasions I definitely sensed a real "brotherhood" as we all posted late into the night about the most innocuous topics. I most definitely did not get this sensation from any other activity I engaged in. Most odd. Quite puzzling. But very real, and totally enjoyable. Without doubt, participating in this forum and its associated activities, has made me a much happier human being.
So what on earth has the Oz done that's so doggone important, so vital to this community, so incredibly mind-blowing, that he was awarded LXOM of the month? Well, apart from being a proud member of the "Good Ol' Boy network", as one member so graciously put it, not a helleva lot – posted a helpful hint or two, lent a hand where I thought it was needed – stuff pretty much all the regulars here do. I would, however, offer the following little known, but historically valuable contributions for your consideration:
Jelly Beans
That's right folks, it was your humble LXOM who christened those little green dots that now trail off to the right of many posts. A little known fact. But essential knowledge in the LX lexicon.
The Randy Award
A fitting tribute (named after a prolific early adopter of the technique) to those who cannot wait to tell all about their latest mod, and post a breathless "coming soon" teaser, but then fail to produce the results for all to see. I designed this starkly beautiful piece of artwork after being sucked into following one particularly egregious teaser campaign. Come to think of it, there's been a drop in the number of qualifying posts. Hmmmmmm.
The M&G Motoring Madness Award (MAGMOMA)
The MAGMOMA is awarded to the member who drives their LX to the most Meet & Greets, in the most disparate geographical locations, in one year. Haven't heard of this one? Not surprising. I just came up with it. Since I came up with it, I'll award it to myself for the outrageous fun I had piling on the mileage by driving to, and participating in, the numerous get-togethers all over California, the meets in Arizona, and the insanely great SRT meet in Kansas that I drove cross-country to attend in 2006. I am truly privileged to have met so many of you, and made such good friends. I'll be happy to relinquish this award to any member who's LX Motoring Madness is worse than mine. The fun I've had doing this should be illegal. Oh, that's right, some of it was.
I wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2007. May you all experience the immense pleasure this forum has brought me.
Thanks again,
Oz
