    February 2009 LXOM: ChargerChick

I know what some of you are thinking. ChargerChick? LXOM?? What does she know about cars? Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing! I don't know anything! I'm not an innovator or a gearhead, heck I don't even have a fast car! But I love my car and I've learned so much in the 3 years since getting my first Charger. I never thought in a million years that buying a car would bring me to this point. I found the forums to learn more about my car, but I gained so much more than that. I found friends...people who are so wonderful and helpful. People who I look forward to chatting with and hanging out with. I found a whole club full of guys and gals who I'm so lucky and proud to be a member of. I found events and get togethers that I'm excited to go to every single time because I get to see the people I chat with regularly and meet some new ones. I didn't just get a car....I got a family!!

A little about myself... I was born and raised in New York. Moved to Phoenix against my will in 1980. I'm like "Why are we moving there? It's nothing but dirt roads and outhouses and tumbleweeds!" I cried in my car as I was heading west because I couldn't imagine life outside of New York. 29 years later I'm still in Arizona and I've never gone back once, not even for a visit. I absolutely love it here (just don't ask me in the summer)! I've been a letter carrier for 23 years now and I'm a mom of a very feisty 24 year old (I wonder where she gets that from???). I've always liked cars but I never got "into" them. Until....

October 17, 2005. My daughter needed a new car because hers was a broken down heap. We went to Tempe Dodge/Kia because of a friend's reference and as we walked up, I saw the Charger and said "That's gonna be my next car!". Walked around the lot, didn't see any used cars that I liked so the salesman suggested getting her a new one. I'm like "If anyone's getting a new car, it's gonna be me!". So now I'm thinking, why not give Jenn my Maxima and I'll buy the Charger!!! It's a win-win situation! The rest is history. I found the forums and went to my first get together in November '05 in Tucson. Started realizing that there's more to a car than jumping in, turning the key, and blastin' the radio. There's exhaust! Something called a CAI! A chip? What's that? What does it do? Chrome wheels? Gotta have it! Oh man, I need a spoiler! Yeah, the infamous "Mustang" spoiler. Boy did I take a lot of flack for that!

Racing? Oh I don't know if I can do that! I've never raced before! Holy cow this is fun! When can we do it again!!!! How do I make my car faster??? Then some time later, I heard about the possiblity of a Daytona in purple. Purple? You gotta be kidding me! I love the color but I've seen purple cars and, well....blah. But then I saw pictures and I fell in love. I GOTTA HAVE THAT!!! So, sometime in April '07 I put money down to build my purple dream. Then for the next 3 months I was a nervous wreck and got all kinds of teasing about "Is it here yet?". Three whole months of torment!!! Until....

July 3, 2007. One of the most happiest days of my life. I got the call that my car was finally in. Ran my butt over to the dealership as soon as I got off work. What did I see when I got there? Well, not only the most beautiful car I have ever seen but about 20 to 25 members of AZLX all gathered with balloons and a cake and a purple robe and beads. I have never been so touched in my life. These people all came out for a car? It's a car! It's not a baby or a wedding! It's a car! Do I have the best group of friends or what??? It was truly amazing and I will never forget that day.

In the last 3 years I've learned so much about my car. Gone to 3 Spring Festivals, LX Nationals in Ohio, the Bullrun before SEMA, Tower Shops in Florida and other assorted get togethers. Met so many wonderful people who I now consider true friends. Who knew that buying a silly car would get me all this? Thank you all so very much. It's truly an honor especially when I look at the list of names before me. I'm so proud to be a member and to call you my friends.

    Congrats "T"!

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture, just get people to stop reading them.
