I hope so, the new GTO has a rating of 29 miles the gallon, that's the 6-speed, and 400 hp.
Thanks.

I don't know that I recall hearing either way, but I assume that the 5.7L equipped model will have MDS, and that the future SRT8 model with the 6.1L will not. I've also heard rumors that the 5.7L Hemi will get a HP boost in the Charger. 365..? 375..? I guess we'll all find out for sure in about a week...Originally Posted by Stampede

A slushbox will never compete with a clutched transmission for mileage, MDS or not. Wiat a few more years and the success of this platform *may* translated INTO a two clutch sequential gearbox.Originally Posted by Stampede
Another thing to consider is flexiibility. That alll aluminum engine isnt somethign I would tow with. Not even one jetski.

what's wrong with an aluminum engine? Land rovers have used aluminum blocks for years with success under very strenuous conditions...just asking for input, not instigating argument. Tim

I cant remember exactly who said it, but i do recall some DCX suit saying that the 5.7 would get MDS in everything except for the trucks. And even that may change later on. But they were saying that people who buy a vehicle with the 6.1 arent really worrying about gas mileage, so dont look for MDS on that one. Man, just a few more days til NAIAS!!!!
Actually....
Chargers in the 5.7 flavour will "not" have MDS. For now... this may change but all pilots that have come through did not have the MDS system.

That's odd... Someone else at BAP told me they had it... Could it be some are built with it??Originally Posted by markyneutron

And IIRC, wasn't the Charger supposed to be a few hundred pounds lighter than the Mag & 300? If so that would make it even better suited for MDS... :?Originally Posted by E8502

Regarding the manual transmission and fuel economy. They are only better if you drive it like a butterfly.
When you have 400hp and a siz speed, chances are you ain't driving like a butterfly.
That being said, I'd rather have a stick sitting behind a V8 regardless of MPG.

Used to watch the engines come by and thought something was diff. One of the launch team guys available to chat as a few rolled by one day and he confirmed no MDS.
Edit: they may make the switch but the pilots don't have it

I believe the mileage for the '05/400hp goat is a little lower than last year.
"EPA fuel economy for the GTO equipped with the optional six-speed manual transmission is an estimated 16 miles per gallon (mpg) in city and 25 mpg on the highway. A 2005 GTO with the four-speed automatic is rated at an estimated 16 mpg in city driving and 21 mpg on the highway. Only the automatic transmission is subject to a $1,300 federal gas guzzler tax."

It's a shame these new LX's can't be ordered with manuals and shorter gear ratios.
