Does it sound like the tranny is slipping? Do you have a torque converter? Also, have you reset your tcm adaptives. Shooting in the dark here, but have you disconnected the battery to reset the pcm adaptives?

I'm not 100% positive on this one, but I've read somewhere that (depending on what is wrong), there is a button/lever on the right side that you can push to get it out of park. If you remove the 5" long 2" deep storage location just to the right of the shifter (it comes out) then you will see where that lever is. Try pushing that and see if it lets you adjust.

And it's brightly colored so you can't miss it!

Most likely it's the transmission interlock, remove the tray next to the shifter.
Look inside, there is a bright color button or lever, push on it as you try to move shifter.
Most likely the spring broke off of a lever inside, you may have to replace it.

    Good luck,

We will ALLLLLL run into this problem sooner or later. We should find and bludgeon the pocket-protector geek and his bean counter friend who made this thing out of plastic.

As a Stop-gap - you can use a thin screwdriver to get the car out of park.

I had mentioned this to Billet Tech. and asked if they could machine up a metal part to replace that broken plastic part.

Trouble is that they need a unbroken sample to make it from...............

It will sooner or later happen to all of us

I had the same bull happen to me 140+ miles away from home on a Saturday in Hattiesburg Miss. NO DAMN DODGE DEALER there.

Fortunately, I have an uncle who is the parts manager here at home. A phone call to him and found out this is very common.

Quick fix for a pissed off me, the cheif mechanic at our dealer said grab the shifter, foot on the brake and rip the mfer out of park.

It worked!! Drove back to Mobile, new shifter on Monday, paid for under warranty.

I hope Dodge keeps the shelves packed, better yet, RECALL and REPLACE with another stronger part.
