So butt load of oil leaked out of my car Friday

The same day I resolve my problem with my overheating and Heating system - (resolved - Low on coolent.)

I drive home and everything is perfectly fine until something very weird happens.

I hear very a loud noise coming from my engine bay as soon as I am about to back-in to my driveway, I find oil on the street and on my driveway trailing my car...thats weird.

I see a little puff of smoke come from my engine, as if something dripped onto my exhaust or a very hot section of my engine.

The engine noise becomes very aggressive, when I turn the wheel either way, I put the car on the street in front of my house because I didnt want the oil in my driveway and garage

It continued to slowly spill, however it was too cold for me to work on it, plus its on the side street.

I want to put it in my garage to work on it, I just dont know if I should move it if it is the power steering fluid (which I think it is)

The coolent is still there and I am not getting any engine errors in my dash either.

I havent been able to get under my car yet to actually see where its coming from, for the fact its in front of my house on the street that has cars past about about 25 - 35 mph, also the the street has a slight slope.

    Any ideas?

First check your oil levels and verify what it is.you probably blew a pwr steering hose
Edit. I say pwr steering cuz the noise u mentioned when turning the wheel. But don't drive it until u know what it is your leaking

    Thanks for the reply.

I was low on coolent, that day my heat was not working unless I had my foot on the gas. I posted on the forum, and it was low, so I put in some 50/50 easy fix.

I will be leaving work early to really get to the nitty gritty. I just need to know what I should be prepared for, or if I should pick up anything on my way home to help me troubleshoot.

Will do, I know that should have been one of the areas I checked, I was just so mad it happened, because it seems like its always something now...

I will be leaving work around 1pm eastern time to see what is going on for real.

    check the engine oil first

check the power steering reservoir, add if needed, fill to desired level and get her to your garage to source the problem. I'm guessing the noise you heard was from the PS pump whining due to low fluid

I attempted to power wash the fluid off my driveway and part of the street. didnt do much.

However, when it happened and I parked my car, I tested it with my finger, and it doesnt seem like it is thick enough to be oil

I will check it when I get home also.

I seem to remember when my car was fairly new, 50,000 miles or so, the dealer had it on a lift for oil change and found a chafe on one of the power steering hoses. It was starting to leak. Dealer replaced the hose, no charge and put some chafing protection where it had chaffed. So far it's never bothered. I know a few guys have had leaks at the rack, as well. Get some Dawn dish washing liquid in some hot water and a broom for the driveway, then hose it off. Good luck, hope it's minor.

The sound increases when as I press on the gas. I took of the bottom cover and I see the fluid on some of the hoses and also on the front frame, and engine components. I checked the steering fluid and it is very low, I know if I put some in it will leak again if it is the hose like formierce said. so now I have questions

What kind of fluid do I use for steering fluid.
Best way to troubleshooting this issue?
If hose is leaking how do I seal it?
thanks everyone, I am on the site using cell, sorry for format

If the hose is leaking, replace it.

yeah, it's a high pressure hose...no fixing or bandaid..it's a quick easy replace.

I'd look for a leak on the pump fitting, or a small cut from bumping a pulley - it happened to me at 120 mph on the NJMP track day...

it could have been hit to by road debris if you don't have belly pans on as well.

Well when you have someone to give you a hand. Put fluid in it. Start the car and then have the person turn the wheel clock to clock. All the way left and hold then all the way right and hold. When you hold the wheel all the way in one direction or the other the system is put under a load, under this added load you should be able to easily see where it leaking from. Use dot3 power steering fluid.
