Ram Air Hood Owners - Give Your Review Here

I'm interested in hearing from all the Ram Air hood owners here and getting everyone's feedback.

If you've installed a Ram Air hood (Style 1 or Style 2), please answer the following:

Overall are you happy and would you recommend it to someone else shopping for a hood?

Do you experience any warping under heat load (engine hot, hot day)?

If you had it painted from the factory, did you have any issues w/ paint match or defects? If so, did you get them resolved?

Thanks much ahead of time for the feedback.

I love my hood!! I do see a little warpage on the front corners with different temps., but its fiberglass, it will wrap a bit, something I knew before I bought it. I had it painted by them as well. I had my car in for some body work on the rear fender (door ding) and I asked the owner about the paint match. He looked at it for a min or two, then said the only problem he could see is that he thought that the metal flake was a little larger than the rest of the paint, and he said that it would not really be worth touching up. He was impressed that it was painted off the car and shipped, and looked that close to the stock paint. I would tell anyone to go for it!

How much does it warp on you? Does it go back down after it cools? Have you discussed this w/ them to come up w/ any fixes? I like the overall look quite a bit but I know I won't be happy if the thing warps on me everytime the engine gets hot or when the sun's beating on it.

i have the style I. match is almost perfect also. but had to do some modification to get it to fit. hood was not made with the air hammer in mind. then had to cut down the power steering and over flow tank. to get the hood to close.

Yeah - I'm putting an AFEII in soon and expect that I'll have to do some mods in order to get it to fit based on feedback from others who have the AFE / RamAir I combo.

I don't mind doing mods like that. I just do not want to have fitment or warping issues.

The warp is not much, it lifts up in heat, around 70+ it will pull up. It is hard to tell from outside, but from behind the wheel it is more noticable. I have not seen engine temp affect it too much, mainly outside temp.

As for a fix, it is fiberglass, it will flex with temp changes. I know an older (70's) Vette owner that told me he can see "waves" down the body on days. It is the nature of the beast.

Warping at 70 degrees? Dang - what's going to happen when it hits 95 deg?? This doesn't bother you?

Mine also warps, it happens when the engine reaches temp it doesn't matter about outside air temp, at least not in TX LOL.

Due to AirRAMs customer service I ended up with both flavors, one for the OEM intake and the other for the AirRAM intake. Yup, got two hoods sitting in the house one AirRAM another OEM and another on the car. Anyhew... the one I have for the OEM intake doesn't warp.

I prefer the fit/color of the one with the AirRAM intake and put hood pins on that hold those warping puppies down.

AirRAM’s has a good hood I still recommend them. I did have customer service issues with them but that was about a year and a half ago, I would hope that has changed.

if you want a perfect hood, get the factory aluminum srt hood. no warping and perfect fit.

fiberglass by nature, expands and contracts from heat.

I know, I know. I worked w/ fiberglass a lot in my aerospace days. Imagine trying to build a high-performance aircraft with fiberglass and el-cheapo polyester resin. When we molded our first wing and I put a check template up to the wing it was off DRAMATICALLY. Took me a bunch of cutting, griding and reshaping to get it back in place.

Anyhow, done right and with the right mat'ls a fiberglass product will perform well. I considered the OEM route but I REALLY like the looks of the RamAir hood over stock SRT. If I feel reasonably well about the quality and customer support from these guys, I'd really like this hood. Plus, my wife loves it too (BIG advantage...)!

You just need to jump in! You will love the hood, I promise. RamAirHood Style I, AFE Stage II. I've never seen mine warp. If it does, it hasn't been noticeable.

Mod Pusher!! Then again, aren't we all??

My AFE II is on the way right now and if I do the RamAir, it would be Style 1. How much tweaking did it take to get the AFE to work w/ the hood?

Love the hood (Magnum version)! I give mine a 9.5 outta 10. I too was concerned about heat, but so far have not noticed any warpage -- but I haven't been looking for it.
I've thought about putting a reflective foil on the underside, but that would push the heat back in towards the engine, and don't know if there's any benefit.

I bought mine painted from RamAir and the color match is dead on.

Great value for the price, IMHO.
