To paint a Charger - How to select a paint shop

I'm thinking about painting it Plum Crazy. I'm not trying to fake a Daytona, just like the color. Getting a Daytona or SRT8 is not an option. I like the current car.

How to select a paint shop?

    - When I ask around, people say "how much do you want to spend?" or "you get what you paid for." I have no idea. Tell me how much I should pay for a paint job I will be happy about? I could be over-charged and not know it.

    - Some shop say "they can match any color." I don't want them to match. I want the exact paint code of Plum Crazy purple. How can I make sure they do this, and not just match it. Is there such a thing as "exact" paint from Chrysler? Or are they all matched and mixed?

    - What questions should I ask to determine if the shop is good?

    - I do take care of the surface with regular waxing. But the car does sit in the baking sun at all work hours, and maybe at home too druing the weekend. Should I even bother with painting? Repaint is never as strong as the original, right? Am I looking at a mess of an appearance 5 years down the line?

    - Any other tips?

if a paint shop can color matcvh they normally will do that get the paint code and either order or mix the paint to match the original code.... you can also order paint to the paint code off a plum crazy car.... but if you have the paint code you can just tell the body shop here is the color paint it....LOL

not that hard my friend....good luck

To change the whole car... assuming you want door jambs, underside of trunk lid, etc... $4,000-$5,000. If you want the engine bay too, add another grand.

You defintely get what you pay for. Prep is everything. If you have ever seen the paint jobs that we do here you can see that we basically strip the car down to nothing in order to get the new paint behind every nook. We get roughly $7500 for a one color color change. Reds and Red metallics are more. You do get what you pay for though. Collision type bodyshops do not have the mentality to do quality repaints. They are programmed by the Insurance industry to get cars in and out as fast as possible. I would look for a custom shop in your area that specializes in full paint jobs. Ask around go to some shows and look at the work, that generally speaks for itself.

Is it fair to say, I most likely will not get a quality job at $1,000 budget?

No door jambs, under hood, etc. Just exterior surface.

If your looking for an honest opinion I would say that if your not prepared to spend the money to do a quality paint job then don't do it. In the end a cheap paint job will ruin the value of your car and make it worthless for someone to buy if you had to sell it. Just keep that in mind. If your still hell bent on painting then I would find a quality Macco in your area and see what they will do for you. If your in Cali there are tons and tons of shops that propbably could do a nice job for you.

Get a full vinyl wrap...It's cheaper then paint and you still keep what value the Charger retains for resale.

    This is a wrap...

All the promotional vehicles that artists have, those are vinyl wraps...People with the whole promotional logo deals on their car are most likely wraps..It's like the vinyl that Daytona's have. 36 Chambers' two tone on his white Charger was vinyl if I remember correctly.

yeah but his vinyl wasn't very glossy, that was my only issue with them.

How much does this typically cost?

i wanted to do this too, but i looked into it and you're looking at at least 4000. I decided to just wait till the purple challengers come out.
