    Oil pressure problem...

Hi guys, was just wondering if anyone faced a similar problem with their cars..
yesterday I took delivery of my R/T with R&T, on my way home i hear a chime and the oil lights came on.. i pulled over at the side of the road shut her down and then a minute or so later restarted without problems.. took her for a 30Km (16 mi) drive and then the light came on again.

well on the second time i was playing with the EVIC so i had the screen with the oil pressure on display and it showed the pressure drop from 49 psi to 0.0 psi, oil temp stayed constant at 105C or 220F (it was a hot day 100F). i couldnt stop the car as it was a busy highway so i kept going till i could get off the highway.. so i drove some 12mi or so with the light on till i reached home.

i didnt hear any odd noise during this time, the car ran normally and the oil temp stayed constant.

I started her up this morning and went for a long drive and put 30miles on the odo.. no chimes or oil pressure light this time and she drove well..
i did the "on Acc on Acc on" move and no codes appeared only a "_ _ _ _".

anyways car is in the dealer and i should know more by tomorrow, but has anybody else face a similar situation? was it just a faulty sensor or is my oil pump fried? i really hope i didnt hurt my engine :(.

i'm kinda bummed out about this, but who wouldnt get a grin on their face after seeing this .

If the oil pressure was really at 0... I truely doubt you'd have gone 12 miles especially in 100 degree weather.

Hopefully it's a sending unit. When the Oil Pressure read 0 was it idlling? Or were you running down the road?

Agree with GasGunR... And if it were a pressure issue, I can't help but think you would have been compelled to shut it down when you heard the racket that an oil-less motor makes...

Could also be the empty cavity on the connector is blocked. The pressure sensor is not a traditional pressure sensor, it is a transducer that compares oil pressure to atmosperic pressure and calculates the data to the PCM. The empty cavity is the air hole for this purpose.

I think one other member had the oil pressure sender, or whatever it is go bad. Come to think of it, that happened to my old 62 Chevy SS 283.

    wheres funky chicken on this???

Im betting on the sensor. No way you could have driven 12 miles with zero oil, unless you were going down a 12 mile long mountain. lol

I seriously just think it is the sensor.

Just an update for you guys,..
Took the car to the dealer on saturday after checking eveything they flashed the cluster and gave me back the car in 2 hours.
Drove her around a bit and the light was back on :(
i took her right back and got the car back sunday evening, they had replaced the oil sensor and changed the oil for good measure.
After that the car ran great and i put a good 100 miles on her since then, everything was going well until today!
got off work early and went home to put on the 22elite leather console cover (looks sweet btw), and decided to take the car out for a drive a few miles out and the damn light comes on again, i shut her down and waited a few mins and before starting again i checked for any stored codes and only got the (_ _ _ _ _ _) again.
started her up and the light is still on, so i shut down again left her for 5 mins and went to check the oil level, it was normal.
on the next start up light was gone, on the way back home i stopped by a friends place and left the car running while i stepped out to chat, when i got back in the damn light is on again (@!#@#@$#!$%!).

any idea what the problem could be? fnkychkn i could really use your expertise on this ...
so far to fix the problem the following was done,
    1. Flashed the cluster.
    2. Replaced Oil press. sensor.
    3. Changed the oil.

and still the problem is presisits, i'm so annoyed at this and it really has me bummed out right now, I was so happy driving around with the new console cover and enjoying the rumble of the exhaust and then this :(.

PM Funky, at least it's not a bad oil pump. Freaking Mercedes over engineering strikes again!

Did they say they verified the empty cavity in the oil pressure sensor connector was clean and unobstruced??? Again, if this hole is blocked, the light can come on. There is no flashes available for this problem, so they must have just reset the cluster.

There are 2 sensors. One is by the oil filter and one is on the front of the engine and requires you to remove the altenator to get to because of the locking clip. Tis same thing happened to me and it was the one on the front of the engine under the alternator. Hope this helps.

    Which one did they change?

The one by the oil filter is the pressure switch (green connector), the other is the oil temp sensor.

Tbird, i told them what you said and they replaced the sensor by taking one out from another car (part was not available at the time), i forgot to ask if the cavity in my cars oil press. sensor was blocked tho.
they'll be checking her again tomorrow morning, really sucks having to take the car to the dealer 3 times already with only 250 miles on the car :(.

well guys, it looks like that i'm the first to have a leprichon in a charger. Low oil pressure light comes on out of the blue without throwing any codes. The dealer even installed the mobile star scan on to my vehicle and even then it recorded nothing except the oil pressure going to 0 and staying there :S.

so after verifying that the pump is actually working and replacing the sensor again!!! the light still comes on, so maybe the PCM is busted?? well that was replaced too! nope did'nt do any good they just started reversing out from the service center and the light comes on lol..

they even checked out the cluster and it was normal no defects what so ever...

well needless to say the charger stayed over at the dealer last night, dealer was pretty cool about this and are doing their best and even tho they are not obligated to give me a loaner they gave me one anyway.

today they'll work on her again and hopefully they'll be able to pinpoint the exact problem, so far all the mechanical bits as well as the electronics seem to be in order, so that leaves the electrical connections, or voodoo i guess.

anyways, more updates to come soon i hope.
