Brothers and Sisters and other members of the Grand Congregation of the Temple of Our Holy Lady of Massive Horizontal Acceleration and The Holy Order of Speed, Style and Plain Ol’ WhoopAss, The time has come for me to give testament to the Sacrament of power offered to us as:
FlashPaq!
Now Laypeople, Preists, Inquisitors, and Newcomers I shall NOT either recommend or dissuade in my testimony. I shall only give forth the knowledge that I have aquired.
This is the Gospel of Rev.Hammer as best as he understands the matter. First I shall describe my altar of vehicular glory:
2006 Dodge Charger R/T with the Road and Track Option.
Build date of 11-05-05
2B3LA53H66H317***
Trim Level: Y2D1
Stock Michelin Tires inflated to 35# FlashPaq tire setting is at 27.75
New air filter
Mobil 1 synthetic oil
Full tank of 93octane fuel
Al observations made with the engine fully warmed
FlashPaq setting is 91 octane, performance curve, hold gear on manual to redline
Vehicle unloaded with exception of myself
Her name is Val and yes, I consider my car to be a female
No Power Modifications other than a Bassani Catback exhaust.
Also let me clearly state that I DO NOT OWN A FLASHPAQ. Done was kind enough to let me borrow his and evaluate its effect. There was 1 update installed from the FlashPaq website. Forgive me, but I do not know the descriptor of the update.
The installation of the modifying software went without complaint or complication. It was straightforward and simple. Upon cranking her exhaust was slightly deeper and more authoritarian.
Throttle:
Acceleration was definitely stronger, especially at the bottom end. She pulled substantially better in the 2000-4000 rpm range. My butt dyno was well pleased with the newfound rearward push. I was able to really make her bark the tires at will from a standing start MOST of the time. There seemed to variations in this phenomenon. While throttle response is markedly crisper and more responsive, there seemed to be times that this refreshing crispness faded. This was irrespective of the engine’s temperature. Also, there was a pronounced surge at idle. While the idle was about 150-200 rpm’s higher than pre-flash, the rpm’s surged roughly 200 rpm’s in park, neutral, and engaged. I found that by shutting down the environmental controls, the surge went away. Post return to stock, the surge did not manifest. Cruising was smooth with no surge as hills became laughable. MDS engagement seems to be a bit quicker to come on. Maybe it is perception but I think that the MDS note was more baritone and pronounced. As a side note; when driving in normal versus ESP off modes it seems the ESP was quicker and more strident in engagement with the FlashPaq than stock. In city traffic I was able to literally shoot Val’s muscular hips in and out of traffic with brilliant ease. There was no thinking, just point and push and grin. Other than the surge, I was extremely satisfied with Val’s new lustiness.
In THIS church, that kind of lust is no sin.
Shifting:
Val’s shifting improvement is sweet and profound. Shifts occurred with nearly no hesitance and gear engagement was solid versus what I consider flaccid and vague way it shifted stock. In manual mode she held to redline and bonked the rev limiter with ease. In automatic mode, she held the gear about 500-700 rpm,s higher than stock under normal in city driving. A quick punch of the git-pedal created neat and fast downshifts. I observed 3 instances of double-downshift when flooring it in automatic mode at 60 mph. In manual mode I could tap it into nearly any gear I wanted within reason. I especially liked keeping it in the rpm sweet spot and whacking the loud switch to produce extreme head movement! SWEET! Ahem. Anyway, the shifting in manual mode was just as slick and quick as in automatic mode. On the highway, starting at 60 and hammering it, 140 was only a scant 8-9 seconds away. I do believe that I bumped 150 my dear parishioners but my ticket indicator began a fuss. On twisty roads, ESP off I could get Val to drift so nicely. Half roundies and donuts in a parking lot were unbelievably easy. The only cause for concern is that when shifting in manual at WOT, I had to tap up to 2nd gear around 5700-5800 rpm’s or else the trans would ‘stutter’ and not go to 2nd when manually upshifting. I had to back out of the throttle so that it would shift. This unnatural shifting event would take about a full second to reconcile itself. This did not occur in any other gear and not in automatic mode. This is completely unacceptable!
Fuel mileage improved by a measured 2-3 miles per gallon. I consider this to impressive to say the least. I drive quite aggressively and Val loves me because I do, so a noted gas savings of this level is remarkable.
As far as any other matters there were no complaints and everything else seems to be the same as it ever was. I make these postulations:
I think that a cold air intake would yield provable and visceral power increases.
Once header issues are worked out, there will also be improvement.
New rear gears without REALLY sticky tires would be a moot point. If you are spinning, you aren’t accelerating. Once the surge and variant throttle crispness issues are solved, rubber roastage will be really righteous.
Now if brother Vader will kindly cue up the music, please turn in your hymnals to song 354, George Thorogood’s “Gear Jammer”. Brother Zog will pass the beer plate. Brother 7th will dispense the Holy Fluids.
