    I think we have a tranny/parking problem

Ok this is the second time this has happened to me and need feedback from everyone parking in the SNOW.

My driveway has a slight 10 degree decline to the street.

This is the second time that when I parked the car at NIGHT after a snowfall and the driveway was clear, but remnants of ice existed, that the car just SLID DOWN INTO THE STREET.

Both times I jumped INTO the car and jammed the brakes, then started her and cut the wheels HARD to stop her.

Luckily I was lucky both times, otherwise, we would have pics of a wrecked Charger posted.

I noticed that when you put the car in Park, shut her off, take your foot off the brake, she rolls a little until the tranny locks.

HOWEVER, with that slight roll, it is just enough movement that the car begins the slide of death. Wheels and tranny locked after intial locking, and the car slides downhill.

ANYONE ELSE experience this? I put wheel chucks behind my wheels now to play it safe. It is NOT funny. lol

How about using the parking brake? I know it seems like a crazy idea but I hear it works....

Arrow I know you have the HEMI, but....

    Allevon,

Hello, This is Brian Carotenuto. I realize that you have an R/T, and not a V6. I am aware of a recall involving the 42RLE 4 speed automatic (Cup Plug Bracket) I'm wondering if the same kind of thing is starting to happen to you.

I know that the Hemi's have the 5 speed autostick (WA54580-aka-NAG1) and is of a different design as well (Mercedes-Benz engineered and manufactured) I'm not aware of any recalls, but for the peace of mind, check Chrysler's website to see if anything is out there involving a recall, and check with your dealer to see if there are any TSB's released on the situation.

    To get recall information:

    1) Go to Chrysler's website (www.chrysler.com)
    2) Click on "Owner Services"
    3) Click on "Recalls"
    4) In the box displayed, type in the last 8 digits of your VIN (ex. 5H000000)
    5) If anything comes up, it will be posted here....

    Hope this information helps

there are two forces at work here; momentum and friction. you can take care of the momentum part by applying the park brake and making sure the vehicle is completely stopped before exiting. as for the friction part, i'm sure a good set (4) of winter tires would help. also spreading a salt/sand mixture on your driveway should help increase it's coefficient of friction.
Izzy pics money talks. unfortunately, mine usually says... "good bye!"

You're insane, what a stupid idea! (I use mine on any slope.)

Besides, with the open diff, it only takes one rear wheel to slip.

Yes exactly, Im using a set of Conti all season radials. They never slide when driving, so that is one thing that stumped me.

At the time of the second incident, no salt was added as of yet because the snow was melting, and was pure water when i left. It froze when I got home, but only in certain parts where it flowed. NOT all 4 parked tires.

The car WAS at a complete stop, I exited the car and heard ice being crushed, turned and the car was sliding down the driveway.

The issue of force and friction somehow are not interwined in this instance.

I wish I could have made a video because it seems strange how it begins.

You have to put it in neutral and press on the parking brake hard until you stop rolling. Then put it in park. When you do this there is no movement when you put it in park. This may or may not help your sliding problem but it's the way to keep pressure off of the pin and the proper way to set the parking brake.
