Question Exhaust......ed, trying to find the best system!

I have been gathering info as to the best exhaust system to put on my 5.7L RT. But it seems that no one has an opinion as to which is the best. I know that sound, quality, performance, price are all factors, but is there one that outshines the rest? Other questions I have is the question of welding over hardware for connections and can the pipes be installed before the headers are purchased, or do you have to know what type and brand of headers you will eventually be buying before you do anything?

No, headers should come with mid pipes so you should be fine.

Borla has 2 systems the 125 and the 112. I am very impressed with the 112(known as the wife friendly) one. The 125 has the 5" tips and sounds incredible, but if your married, make sure the wife can stand it. If you can make it to a meet and greet , say a ETown, I'm sure folks would be happy to demo, because someone will have what you like.

Corsa, Loud when you step on it, quiet, no drone on the highway. I have the JBA shorty headers and high flow cats and would recomend them as well... I always install everything myself, give it a week or two to ensure no rattes, bumps or rubs, then I take it to a muffler shop and have them weld all the joints together... Cheap security against them eventually working loose, plus I have a tendency to overtighten things, which will cause air gaps around the joints, LOL

Corsa sounds like a thing posessed when you whomp the gas, but at idle and cruise it's practically whisper quiet. Unless you like making a scene all the friggin time, IMHO this is the best choice. Zoomers has a similar raspy growl at WOT, but it's a little noisier at cruise. The Borla systems are certainly good, the 125 has a little drone and the 112 does not but is quieter all around. JBA, Magnaflow, Bassani, etc. all have good aggressive sound but lots more noise while cruising. If that's what you're after, then these options (which are also cheaper) are for you.

LOL... Thanks! I did plenty of reading and listening in person before I dropped coin on probably the most expensive system available (Corsa). But damn, it was worth it.

I have the Zoomers on my R/T and I am extremly please with the sound. At idle it has a nice low rumble / growl, but at WOT it'll wake the neighborhood for a 3 block radius... Inside the cabin I have virtually no drone at all. It is one of the more expensive systems, but IMO well worth it.

The best advice I can give is to go to some meet and greets and listen to as many different exhaust as your interested in. Then pick the one you like best. In the end it's all a matter of personal taste. Good Luck and Happy Moding!

I rode in BIGDAVE's magnum W/a pair of Flowmaster Super40s & no resos.

That is the way i am going.

    3" Super40s adapted to the 2 3/4" SRT stock catback/Blastin Bob's.

Very subtle @ cruise W/that "Flowmaster Sound" @WOT.

Even W/the $150 for a pair of Super40s & $100 to bend & intall a few feet of 3" pipe to mate up to the Blastin' Bob's, I'll still only have about $450 in the complete system.

It should breath plenty free enough to take advantage of my high winding cam/head/headers combo.

    Mopar LT headers/2 1/2 cats < 2 3/4" mid pipes < a pair of 3" Flowmaster Super40s < 3" tailpipes W/O resos.

There are too many factors to give one system the award for being the best. All the cat-backs will improve the flow over your stock set-up. But the most flow may or may not give you the best performance.
The mfg's will use varying quality of material in the systems, most of which are stainless and even the stainless will vary. Will you notice the performance difference between the worst flowing and the best, most likely not. You will see a difference in the fit, longevity of the product
(I've seen more then a few high dollar stainless mufflers crack and fracture after 2 or 3 years of normal use) and most of all the sound. Since interior resonance can be a big issue with LX's and LX owners, this could be a big factor in any exhaust decisions.
You will be able to hook-up any aftermarket cat-back to an aftermarket header and vice versa. The amount of work to do it will vary depending on the headers. So you can do the cat-back first if that's where you want to start.
Do a lot of homework before you tear into you ride. The sky is the limit on mods.

I had a Borla exhaust installed on my Charger R/T about a year ago after giving in to the advise/sales pitch of the dealership service manager. I don't know for sure which model I have (need to check my receipt) but I would say that it is the 125 version. I paid $500 installed. It makes the car sound a lot more powerful and it also looks better from the back. I can't say that it is the best exhaust you can buy but it is definitely worth the money.

Thanks to all for your input. Being new to the forum and the mods available, bring more questions which require even more answers. The replies are very informative and help considerably. Has anyone had any experience with the B&B cat back system?

I chose to get Zoomers after going to a number of meets and I love the sound. At idle, its definitely got a nice bass note rumble.

Compared to the stock pipes, its like big honkin muscle car versus ticked off air conditioner.

My point was that a) I love my Zoomers and b) shop around, go to meets and hear the different set ups. Also ask owners how they like them at cruising speeds and idle. Its like window shopping.
