    Question Chime Issue

Noticed today while driving on a 48 mile trip the I got the (airplane sound) chime over speakers. No lights on dash. Mileage didn't matter. Navigation was working fine. Listening to CD. No Nav messages. Checked vehicle reminders and none of them were near the reminder mileage. It happend about 3 - 4 times while driving. There were about 3-4 chimes in a row before it stopped. No chimes on the way home however. Using Nav to get home and listening to same CD. Any idea??

If you have EVIC, you can scroll through to see the last alarm. Since the car has been turned off, the last alarm will probably be shown the ABS on the next startup. If it goes off again while driving, pull over and see what it was.

An intermittent chime may be from a loose door or trunk sensor. Just my guess.

I think these chimes that you state are different from the chime I hear. Mine sound just like the sound when your on a plane and the seatbelt sign comes on. The chime also comes on the speakers.

Could be a different one. With the car off, turn on the lights. Same sound?

You could have been driving around with your signal on for more than 1 mile, there's a chime for that. As far as I know, the chime for the turn signal being left on, or the seat belt not being worn, are the only continuous chime alerts.

i believe the chime you hear is the maintenance reminder chime generated by your REC Navigation radio.

hooking up with FleshWound this morning. he had a similar issue. i'll ask him to "chime in" on this thread.
Izzy pics money talks. unfortunately, mine usually says... "good bye!"

It is definitely the chime generated by the REC Navigation radio. But there were no nav messages and none of the reminders were even close to the mileage. Hope someone knows what the problem is.

    Thanks in advance.

the chime i got was also through the speakers. Had the dealer scan it and he told me the cd that was playing was not an "original or was of a different file format" (I guess it was a corrupted mp3 file)

Dealer told me that if the cd media was not changed, the radio would eventually power itself down and would require their manufacturer to reboot it.<<<< at my cost

So I changed the cd and all has been fine for the last 2 years!!!
Oh, and I tried that corrupted cd again about 6 months later and it chimed again.

    hope this helps!!
    cheers

Well I soved the problem. Not knowing..I updated my TomTom and was using it on my trip, but did not use it on the way back. I used it today in my work vehicle and got the same chime. Somehow after updating it. The tomtom was set to remind me when I went faster than the posted speed limit. The way it was placed on the windshield of the car, it sounded like it was coming from the speakers. I had this tomtom for 4 years and never even seen this feature. Oh well, at least its not the car!
