    Charger!!

Well, here is the stuff we *know* about the 2006 Charger:

    Charger is real!!
Charger has the 5.7L Hemi, SRT has the 6.1L Hemi
Charger has 4 doors (or some kind)
Charger will come in few different versions
Charger will be a 2006 model in production by Jan/Feb 2005

    What we don't know:

    Transmissions??
What kind of 4 door layout does it have??
    What's it look like??
    What are the trim levels??

Note: This information is based upon rumors from around the net and is in no way official.

So what's the power/torque difference between the 5.7L and 6.1L?

I'm almost 95% sure that it will be regular doors, going by what we have got so far.

Well, there are two answers for that.

    1. Substantial

    or;

    2. Not much, just the idea of a 6.1L Hemi will give the Charger enough of a sales boost in the "This car has what the other LX's don't" department.

Quite funny, but its only a difference of .4 liters....but doesn "6.1L" just sound huge?

Basically what I'm trying to say is that it sounds like we are back in the 60's with engine sizes...and THAT is good! :P

im pretty sure what their going to do with the doors is exactly what the RX8 has, it has the two main doors and those itty bitty rear doors that are hardly noticable. i think its a great idea to do it that way because you get a 2 door coupe with a 4 door accesbility and even teh 2 door look.

I'm guessing that we'll see mostly the same options as on the other LX cars, to keep costs down. I'd say three main trim levels, like the Magnum's SE, SXT, RT. The same Mercedes-Benz 5-speed automatic transmission, probably the old 4-speeds for the V6 cars. I'd be surprised if there was no manual, so probably a 6-speed stick, possibly a Getrag unit. I agree with the consensus that the 'quad coupe' door layout is most likely.

I have an idea of what it looks like, but it's hard to put into words.

Now here's the real question - will the Charger be available with all wheel drive, and if so, on which models?

Is anyone going to consider the price of gas? 6.1L won't even get 15mpg realistically.

Good observations. I'm wondering how Dodge is positioning this car. As a replacement for the Intrepid or as a halo car? If its a replacement for the Trep...then defintely you'll see it with all 3 engines. If they position it as a halo car...then we may only see the V8 (I don't think this is their strategy though...they want sales)

6.1l with AWD. HHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Will we see 12MPG? I know we have wish lists but we don't have the gas money. Think realistically. All your income is going to be forked over for gas.

Hard to really say. The 5.7L Hemi only get 1 mpg less then the 2.7L....what's the beneift there (except price of course)?

I'd love to see that. I doubt a 345 HP beast will only lose 1 MPG over 190 HP sheep. Now maybe, due to the fact that you will really have to push the 2.,7L to get anything going, may create that situation but I really don't believe for a moment, that a 2.7L will get 1 MPG less than a 5.7 Hemi.
And for us Canadians, the price of gas is fluctuating daily and it hits lows of 67 cents/litre low to a high of 78 cents/litre high, for regular gas. Multiply those number by 4.4 and get the cost/gallon. Also, our Canadian gallon is 1/5th larger than the American gallon. I use mid and high octane and the price ranges from 71-87 cents/litre. These are serious numbers and are costly.

with all this concern about gas milege think of this: when you buy a sports car like a charger/camaro/corvette. Gas mileage isnt really much of a concern or care when u buy the car. plus werent they working on some hybrid charger as well?

That may be true for some people, but the majority of car buyers do worry about fuel economy. You're not going to have much fun if you are filling up three or four times a week.

Besides, Camaro's/Corvette's get right around 30mpg on the highway.
