    best buy resposible

Do you think best buy should pay for my tranmission problem since the problem stemed from a faulty installation on my radio. And the dealership wont cover the wiring that got fried but they will cover some box under warranty. Its only $166 but its still the principle.

make it short and sweet my transmission failed on friday, because of this. The dealership called my today and said that because of the wiring on the radio to my ebrake. Everytime i applied the ebrake it was slowly damaging a box not sure what box but its the near the transmission and also the wiring too. I write all the details when i pick up the car tomorrow.

Your trans failed and it is a $166 charge? Have you talked to Best Buy....in a calm manner? What were they hooking to your Ebrake? Was the connection made correctly per instructions or did they do this on their own thinking power? Was the wiring good or did it fray?

The Devil is in the details....

yes i already called them i just got off the phone with the consumer relations department and yes i was calm no need to have a hot head just yet. I just found out what the problem was today. And they are forwarding the info to the insurance company. And it was hooked up to the ebrake because its a touchscreen dvd player. And it was hooked up wrong, thats why it slowly messed up everytime i put the ebrake on. And it fried my wiring to my tranny. hts a $166 charge to get the wires fixed, the box that burned out got replaced under warranty. But when i pick up the car tomorrow ill have all the paper work. To tell me in detail.

Because the person i spoke on the phone said, whoever installed your radio messed up the wiring. Other wise im guessing if everything was done right he would have just said that it just fried or failed. But they pinpointed it right to my radio.

I used to work at bestbuy for 5 years, and I wouldn't trust them to wash my car let alone install something. Disclaimer: they do have some decent installers, all depends on the store you go to. But most that I ever saw during my 5 years there were hacks and young punks who thought they knew alot. One of the installers put amp screws through someones gas tank once, needless to say they didn't work there much longer after that. I've also known people to get alarms installed where the button to arm it armed the alarm and unlocked the doors, then when disarming it locked the doors. Fun stuff

Good, document everything, start a notebook with a date on each page to detail what is going on, what happened where, witnesses, names of installers, service reps, people you talked to on the phone...pics

Details will prevail in the end.

yeah... i never trusted best buy or circuit city to do my radio installs. always afraid they'll **** something up and say it wasnt them and leave me to fix the problem out of my own pocket.

Yes, they should be held responsible if the dealership says the wiring was the cause.

Want to know why many major retailers and US companies out-source everything..because they can get the "SAME LEVEL OF INCOMPETENCE CHEAPER!" There is NO attempt to improve customer service, just lower the bottom line on support. Sorry to hear about your problems...

I take ALL warranty related questions to my dealer whom I love...I take ALL "outside the lines" issues to friends who are independent shops that rely on me for repeat business and word of mouth for business...so far my old Hoss built in 10/04 has thrown one code in it's lifetime...a stuck thermostat...cost me a box of glazed donuts to be the first in line...was gone in 60 minutes...

aight picked up the car from the dealership yesterday. And they said whoever put my radio in, while they were hooking it up that they had pulled out some wires to the tranny out of the harness and didnt put them back in. so they were just hanging. So when i put my ebrake on the wires got caught in the ebrake. Also my o rings and some other junk went bad but that was under warranty.
