    Bad Luck :(

My Charger was broken into night before last. The drivers side window was smashed. I don't usually keep anything of value in the car, just some change for tolls or the carwash but my wife left the keys to her car in the center compartment last weekend.

    So her car was stolen.

It is a 2007 Ford Mustang GT Convertible. The color was a dark red and it had a cloth black top. It has Virginia plates and the last three digits are BBB.

If anyone in the Northern Virgina/DC or Maryland area (or anywhere else for that matter) sees this car please call the police.

I had a $500 deductable on both cars so I am out at least $1,000.

I got the glass replaced on the Charger yesterday but I am waiting for the adjuster to look at the rest of the damage. The thief did cut himself going in the window as there was blood on some of the glass fragments and on the seat.

    Thanks for your help!

Here are some more pics taken where I live.

Sorry to hear about the damage and theft. Hope everything goes well in the recovery and the jerks that did this are caught. Will keep an eye out for wife's Mustang as requested.

I hope they did a DNA test on the blood for future reference. Also if the person is a convicted felon his DNA should be on file.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

The adjuster came out yesterday to assess the damage to my car. I kind of wish he had called first as my car was at home and I was at work.

I walked him through the damage I knew about but I told him there was really no way to know the extent of the damage until the car was cleaned and detailed.

He went ahead and wrote up an estimate and tried to give me a check (through the mail slot). I again told him to hold off with payment until the car is cleaned up. So I made an appointment with the detail place and will drop off the Charger first thing Saturday morning. At least after it is cleaned I will feel comfortable driving it.

I did get a rental car though. They gave me fleet issue 2007 Charger in black. It was totally stripped down. With the 2.7 and the 4 speed auto it seemed like the car was really straining even just driving around town. It could have just been abused as it had almost 30,000 miles on it. I'm going to take it back this afternoon and get something else.

Still no word on the Mustang although I did get excited briefly when the police called. Turned out that they just wanted some pictures of the car.

The police officer did take a chunk of the broken glass with blood on it but he told me that they would probably not do a DNA test on it as they normally do not for this type of crime.

Attached is a pick of my wife's car.

If it does end up being a total loss, does anyone know if I will get full retail value for it based on the going rate for her car in the marketplace?

    Thanks!

That's interesting stuff, I didn't realize they did that, but makes sense.

Depending on your insurance company they should take care of whatever market value is. I had a 1969 Baja bug with a fully built race motor and restored interior, bilstein coilovers, etc. And it was stolen and stripped down to the pan and the insurance company gave me everything I had in receipts which was actually about 3k higher than what I could've sold the car for.

LMAO yea right, I'm betting they didn't that would require actual work. Why bother with that when there are tint and speeding tickets to be given. To the OP sorry about your car getting stolen but at least now you can get another charger.

2010 SRT-8 CHALLENGER 6 speed. Diablo Predator, AFE stg II, billet tech catch can and under hood kit, Razors edge strut tower brace front and rear, DMH E cutsouts, T-stat, many on the way.

Whats the point of blocking out your plate#? Wouldn't you want to post the whole # in case someone sees the 1 out of 20,000 or so me-too red Mustang convertibles to discern its yours?

Doen't you think the "BBB" is descriptive enough--that would be the only thing I would be able to remeber of the "fly" anyways.

Also, forgot add in my last post "Sorry to hear about the bad news."

    Thanks. That is encouraging.

I appreciate all the kind words and efforts everyone!

I took the Charger in to get detailed today. I hope they do a decent job; they seemed pretty clueless when I dropped it off. I took it to Sparkle Car Wash and Detail on Richmond Hwy. I let you know how it turns out.

    *Update*

Well, it has been over a week and the car has not been found.

I received some paperwork from the insurance company and sent it back yesterday.

I also received a letter from Fairfax County Police Dept. The letter was dated 8/14, which was the day after the car was reported stolen. The letter stated that the case had been transfered to the Auto Theft Division. It also said that there were no suspects and no leads therefore the case was placed in the "suspense file" to be reactivated if additional information surfaced. The letter was signed with a signature "stamp".

At this point I have serious doubts that the thief who broke into my car and stole my wifes car will ever be caught. It also seems clear that the Police Dept declined to pursue the DNA test.

I am starting to lose hope that the stolen car will ever be recovered :(.

I do appreciate everyones efforts in keeping a look out for the car.

    Thank you all very much!

    UPDATE
    The Mustang has been recovered!
The Fairfax County Police contacted me at 4 pm today and told me that the car was recovered yesterday and is in an impound lot in Temple Hills MD. The car was discovered in P.G. County.
I took a trip over to the Police Station and got the release forms. Will pick up the car tomorrow around noon.
The Police reported to me that the car was drivable and the impound lot said the car "looks fine". They also asked if it was stolen with the keys which leads me to believe that the interior looks ok as well. I took a drive over to the impound lot and saw the car through the fence. The top was up and the windows were also up. From my vantage point I didn't see any damage.
I'll take some pictures tomorrow when I go pick it up.
I'm gonna take it to the dealership that sold me the car and has been doing all the maintenance. They will check it out for any damage.
I'm feeling pretty good right now!
Thanks for everyone's help in tracking the car down.

That's some good news! Hopefully it's unscathed.

Side note on the DNA... that test costs so much to run it isn't worth it for a motor vehicle theft. The taxpayer would have every right to be pissed if it was used for your car, that's just the unfortunate truth of where we are w/ that technology.
