anyone know how to remove brake release handle

I need to take it out to paint it, but I cant get the handle to come off. It looks like it should come out, but cant figure it out. Unscrewing the screws on the handle did not do anything, it looks like the cable is attached to a barrel that might rotate and twist or something to come apart.

Hard to explain well without pictures, but as it turns out, I'll be taking a couple of them off tomorrow - I'll get some shots.

But yeah, there's a barrel on the end of the release cable - that has to come out the side of the piece it's connected to (which is at the back of the handle you're trying to get off). Then the screws you already removed.

I assume you already dropped the lower dash free so you can see the backside? If not, there's a trim piece on the left that just snaps in and out (between the door and the dash), and there's one phillips screw there, and another at the bottom. Then you should be able to gently pull the lower dash out and away.

    Easier with pictures...

Later versions dont have the handle,

I think they just push on the pedal and it releases. I bought a new lap cooler piece off ebay, in Grey, but it didnt have the handle. Its off an 08.

So then MPC tried to order me one using the part # from their conversion kit, but it didnt have handle either.
I guess mid year, they switched so supposedly there isnt a grey version with a handle. I dont really mind painting it, because it doesnt get touched. I didnt want to paint the glove box because the wear and tear from opening it might make the paint look bad.
I already replaced the trim around the door with grey pieces, I will now just need to wait a bit and then start swapping out the doors.

Thanks for explaining how that piece comes out. I had seen that barrel piece at the end of the cable, but didnt want to break it or stretch out that cable.

Yeah, I just found that out today - sorry for the confusion, Frozen.

I got some pictures today of what I was talking about - do you still need them? I'm in a bit of a rush right now, but I can upload them tonight if you need... I probably will anyway.
