would you buy a brand new 05 magnum in 2007?

I found a dealer that has an 05 magnum rt for sale, with 120 miles on it.

Would you consider buying this vehicle, if it had the options you wanted and was a good price? any worries about dry rot (i guess that would be evident), or contaminated fluids (big concern is rust in the fuel lines)?

not sure yet, but thats a good point. it could very well be an 04 build, which would make it even older. its about 200 miles away from me, but the dealer is asking what would appear to be msrp right now.

i havent worked a deal, im trying to figure out if its for real and if hes (finally) willing to negotiate on a price, maybe ill drive out there to take a look.

I'd ask for all fluids to be flushed just because, and then sure, I'd take it! But it should go for waaaaaaay under MSRP... I'm talking like $27k fully loaded if its been there that long.

ha ha, no, this one is in central Kansas.

i wonder how many leftover 05s are floating around?

    EDIT:

i did an autotrader search for new 05 models only, and searched for any distance, and got about 30 hits.

    i thought that was interesting.

I drove my October 04 build date RT like I stole it and it had 7 miles on it when I picked her up. 38,000 miles later it runs stronger than ever..

These motors don't need no steeenking break-in..

I bought a 12-04 build in 6-06. Warranty should still be the 7/70,000 which is much better than the newer models.

If you get a great deal on it, go for it. You should be able to get a VERY hefty discount on it, unless they plan on holding onto it for 20 years as a collectible.

If it was built on or after 11/04 like mine, I would definitely say go for it. Mine has been almost flawless so far at 30000.

I bought my 05 in December of 06.
Offer the dealer what a low mileage used 05 would go for because that is what it is worth. Even though it is new, as soon as it is titled to you and you drive it off the lot, it is a used 05.
Mine had a MSRP of just under $36,000. After checking used prices, I offered them $24,000. They hesitated at first, but accepted my offer after I explained what I felt it was worth. It had been on their lot 2 years and they wanted to get rid of it. They changed the oil before I picked it up. The battery died a couple of months later, but was replaced under warrenty.

When I was shopping for my 05 RT in May of 06, there was a small town dealer I was dealing with who had three 05 RTs. When I asked him, "doesn't Dodge realize they're hurting dealers by making incentives better on 06s than 05s?" he told me about a 2004 Durango that he still had on the lot, brand new.

Manufacturers make dealers take older stock if they want to order newer, better selling models. Then, they go and do away with incenties like better financing, and the cars get stranded.

Two theories on break in, by the way. One is you break it in the way you intend to drive it; if you intend to thrash it, you should break it in that way. The other is the 'conventional' way of break in. Don't know which is correct, but thought I'd throw that out there.
