Has anyone had a problem with tinting the rear window causing problems with radio reception? Dealer was reccomending against it for that reason.

the rear glass mounted antenna is very susceptible to interference from metallic window tints. in order for the antenna to function properly, only non-metallic window tints should be used.
Izzy picsmoney talks. unfortunately, mine usually says... "good bye!"
Kinda what I thought. Been so long since I had windows tinted, just wanted confirmation. Is it pretty easy to stay away from metallic tinting?

just make sure the person doing the tinting knows the difference.

Had the windows tinted on our Charger with no effect on radio reception. I would assume it's not a metallic tint, but I'm not sure. (didn't specify, but had it done through the dealer)
Hmmm, just found out that front tint is illegal in Illinois. Not sure if I'll go ahead or not now. Wasn't planning on going very dark, so might go ahead anyway.

mine came with tints from the dealer...don't have any radio issues except with the IPOD cable...
I have titanium based window tint, and it all but ruined my AM radio reception. FM is fine though. It was worth it. The only thing I listen to on AM radio is Michigan State basketball/football games on my way to a place to go watch it.
Its illegal here in NY but most of the police officers seem not to bother unless they catch you doing something else.Originally Posted by gbreuk
When I lived in Illinois I had my front windows tinted legally, it is a hassle and you need a medical reason for doing it. Guess it helps to be sick sometimes. I contacted the Secretary of State, who turned me over to the Illinois State Police. There is no "form" to fill out, you need a letter from your doctor stating why you need the tinted front windows. I have very sensitive skin and take medications that make the sunlight feel like acid on my skin. So it can be done legally, it just is a hassle.
Here in Florida, we can tint the front windows as dark as we like. I did my Magnum RT windows to match the rear windows, plus put a tint strip across the top of the windshield. Looks great!

I had the metallic tint put on not thinking about radio reception at all. First time I put on the AM dial almost nothing comes in. FM seems just fine. I went for the tint because they had this cool demo in the shop which lets you feel how much heat the metallic tint blocks. Ooops. So now I'm ooking at satelitte radio. Funny, they sell that in the same shop.
