Why not install the parking sensors in front?

On my R/T Magnum I had a sun visor monitor hooked up to a IR Camera in the bottom of my grille to help me park with my 1" dropped Magnum.
It was ok but I really didn't like the camera being there and other issues.

Here is a thought and since I know NOTHING about the parking sensors please shoot this down if it is dumb...here goes.

Why not install the parking sensors real low in the front bumper so you know how far to the curb. I do not know what distance they are set at or if you can change the distance setting/ or if you have to have it plugged into the reverse gear...it was just a thought.

    Let me know your thoughts

Sounds reasonable to me. It would certainly keep from driving up on those parking stops or high curbs when you nose in.

The Magnum has a soul. It has a personality, something all too lacking in the automotive transportation appliances everybody else is offering.

That's a good idea, and not just because I have two sets waiting to be installed front and rear. Thing is...the rear one is usually hooked to the backup lights so it's only 'on' when you're in reverse, or it'll make extraneous noise in bumper-to-bumper traffic. You'll prolly need to hook the front system to a toggle switch, or remove the 'beeper' from the system...or put that on the toggle switch and leave the lights on all the time.

I figgered I'd have to play with it to find the optimal setup... Cheers. B^)>

You just have to remember that there may be harness issues, plus the fact that you have to drill into the bumper facia, and that leaves marks. You also may have to watch out for the angle of installation and the proximity to the ground. The ones on the rear bumper are up fairly high.

I am looking at installing a limit switch under there, front, center, with a roller cam on it adjusted to about 1/4" from bottoming the facia. We use these all the time in the injection molding Industry to assure an actuated mold feature is made before closing the mold and causing very costly damage. They are cheap and reliable, it would only need an opening of about 5/8" X 1" to work. I prefer a light our audible sound to know that it has contacted the offending surface. (Time to stop)
With the KW V2 drop all around, it is a cheap alternative to high siding the facia and tearing it off!!

how about just learning the dimensions of your vehicle and parking accordingly. if it was a kid's bike on the ground, would you park the nose on top of it? i think not. when you pull into a parking spot, look for the curb and stop BEFORE you hit it. that being said, i think Dragao has the right idea by powering the system through a toggle switch.
Izzy pics money talks. unfortunately, mine usually says... "good bye!"

If your depth perception was as bad as mine you wouldn't need to ask :-) I was forever either 2 feet away from the curb, or into it.

My first idea, before putting in the camera I have, was the sensors. It seems that forward sensors are actually somewhat common in Europe but unheard of here. I was never happy with what I was able to find, front sensor-wise. Closest deal was out of the UK where the sensors attached to the underside of the spoiler.

I decided to try the camera first and go with sensors if it wasn't good enough. Never needed to. I can see it sucking if you mount the camera too high, or its not mounted well, or works poorly in low light. But lucky for me none of that happened and the thing came out perfect.

Yeah dude... not to sound too rude, but if you can't hit a parking spot, please don't drive in Chicago... I don't want to be anywhere near you at 90mph.
