What's the purpose of rear wheel well vents?

    These things...

(Thanks for the pic FloridaRT )

All it does is get rubber from the track all over the rear resonators and inside the rear bumper. PITA to clean it all. What's their purpose in life??? I am going to just rivit a thin piece of aluminum to the back side to keep all the melted rubber out of there...

i would make a guess at letting air pass thru it at highway speeds.

maybe something to do with letting air hit the mufflers........(cooling)?

In the end I would go with my first choice, they are there to let air pass thru the plastic instead of catching it and making stuff shake....

Maybe 'something to do with airflow at speed'.

Maybe to keep the rear bumper from flapping around?

Maybe to flow air across the resonators to keep them from melting all that plastic?

Mine are blocked with track rubber/debris anyway.

All it's designed to do is stop the dead zone of air space from being in behind the wheel well, help with the cooling of the breaks, etc. Reality is you won't be gaining much from having them there because the large amount of heat storing metal will take massive amount of air to cool that you will never get though those vents. So IMO some dodge designer though it would look cool, and can't hurt the cooling of the brakes.
