Mine is 178.
Without being too explicit, and while asking everyone to be cool, I'd really like to know what the top looks like nowadays.
I know that Meister had the best number for a long time - higher than any SRT because there was no Superchips available for the 6.1L and those who tried without it hit a wall somewhere around 168.
His record stood at 176 for some time, but I knew that had been broken: There was a guy in Dubai, and at least one in Germany. I don't remember if those two were verifiable, and I forget what the numbers were, or where they were posted.
Lou's number was 182.8 in the standing mile (!!!), but I suspect his number is a bit higher than that - maybe he can say.
So what I'm asking and would like to talk about maturely is what is the number to beat?
-----------------
EDIT: From post #29 below:
Obviously I wouldn't be asking if I weren't planning on beating it. But I also hope that others take a crack too.
We have a lot of advantages that Meister didn't have at the time (tuning for one huge example), but it still comes down to who has the desire to get there.
If it starts going that way, I need to stress how obviously dangerous it is to begin with. I've spent a lot more thought and work on this than I have words about it. Brakes, suspension, wheel balance, tires, the pressure in them... There is a lot of care that needs to be taken if it's something you want to do. And even when all due diligence is done, there are any number of things that you can't plan for that can end it in an instant. None of this is worth that.
But it's something I'm chasing, carefully and deliberately. I've been spending a lot of road time at the various stages leading up to my number - I didn't arrive anywhere near that on my first attempt. I had logged many miles at 130~, then 150~, then 160~. Over the span of two years, I made personal bests at 154, 160, 170, 178. Part of that number getting higher is the car getting faster - part of it is me getting to know it better. Now I'm after something better than 183. I think I'll be there.
Be careful out there, and if you know a number that I need to hear about, let me know.
