    What's the current number?

    Mine is 178.

Without being too explicit, and while asking everyone to be cool, I'd really like to know what the top looks like nowadays.

I know that Meister had the best number for a long time - higher than any SRT because there was no Superchips available for the 6.1L and those who tried without it hit a wall somewhere around 168.

His record stood at 176 for some time, but I knew that had been broken: There was a guy in Dubai, and at least one in Germany. I don't remember if those two were verifiable, and I forget what the numbers were, or where they were posted.

Lou's number was 182.8 in the standing mile (!!!), but I suspect his number is a bit higher than that - maybe he can say.

So what I'm asking and would like to talk about maturely is what is the number to beat?

    -----------------

    EDIT: From post #29 below:

Obviously I wouldn't be asking if I weren't planning on beating it. But I also hope that others take a crack too.

We have a lot of advantages that Meister didn't have at the time (tuning for one huge example), but it still comes down to who has the desire to get there.

If it starts going that way, I need to stress how obviously dangerous it is to begin with. I've spent a lot more thought and work on this than I have words about it. Brakes, suspension, wheel balance, tires, the pressure in them... There is a lot of care that needs to be taken if it's something you want to do. And even when all due diligence is done, there are any number of things that you can't plan for that can end it in an instant. None of this is worth that.

But it's something I'm chasing, carefully and deliberately. I've been spending a lot of road time at the various stages leading up to my number - I didn't arrive anywhere near that on my first attempt. I had logged many miles at 130~, then 150~, then 160~. Over the span of two years, I made personal bests at 154, 160, 170, 178. Part of that number getting higher is the car getting faster - part of it is me getting to know it better. Now I'm after something better than 183. I think I'll be there.

Be careful out there, and if you know a number that I need to hear about, let me know.

I wish I had a place to wring out my Mango express!
Even when I get 3.23s in it, it will still be drag limited I think. I hit 147 in 3rd gear on the 2.82s

2:82 is not your axle ratio, its the overall ratio with transmissiom. The rear axle in the 5.7 are 3:64.

Yessir! I think I probably have all the data necessary to prove it, and it definitely was at WOT.

That was on my old tune too - Bob added fuel to it to be safe, but I did 178 without even the first tune revision. I'd be surprised if my number isn't at least +3 now. Maybe more. As soon as I have the final revision, I'll be out there again to see.

Anybody remember his user name, or where I'd look it up?

So as far as I know (verifiably), Lou holds the record currently - but this thread is young.

    Junior,
After seeing you in photos from the Spring Fest, I finally get your avatar! I just thought you were the world's biggest Raising Arizona fan! Ultimate $5 DVD at Wal-Mart.

Where you hitting 178, got a good road in the desert or something? I think Wil(NYC SRT8) has been way up there, hopefully he chimes in.

One time I did like...105 because my cat threw up and peed on my fiancee's lap while we were driving. The next gas station to change and clean at was about 20 minutes away at the speed limit, and 20 minutes with cat piss and vomit on someones lap in a confined space is just too long.

I would LOVE to wring out my car, but there's no place to do so around here :(.

Yeah, we have some long stretches of nearly new - and nearly abandoned - highway out in the desert.

I think this one's going to be something that the West finally has an advantage in!

I thought the guy in Germany got his while also drafting someone else on the Autobahn, and this was frowned upon. seem to remember some other arguments about downhill slopes and no repetition in each direction. I could be wrong.

I do remember something about the slope too... any idea where to look back through that stuff?
