Well, got back from dragway 42 after t stat mod...

Last night I bought a motorad 176* t stat and installed it in less then 5 minutes. ( thanks Meister and sorry, but the guy that did the video too, I can't remember your name, but thank you...)....what an easy job w/ your help.

Anyhow, before I was running 210*-215* by the time I got staged. I was running 13.5's 13.6's occasionally 13.3. this while running the .25 cent fan mod. After this install, I ran 13.3's and a best of 13.27 at 110mph...60' at 2.0...never ran more then 13.3's....so very happy. Temp while running fans went fron 179 to no more then 183 while staging.

I ran the fans the whole time and got the dreaded code ( engine light ) ....do I pull fuse 11 to get rid of the codes?....will the puter have to re-learn all the beatings?....the b & g flash? And do I have to worry about closed loop...open loop?????

And BTW.....beat a 6.0 GTO....smoked him...but something was amiss, 'cause he ran a 13.8 and I know they run better then that...last gto I raced got me by .2
    Also race a sts-v....no contest...got him by .5

Had a piece of shmidt looking 5.0 run a 11.4 with a turbo....real sleeper....looked like it was going to the junk yard....I love that shmidt!!

With the air last night, I'd say those are mighty good times!!! I'm running the MOTORAD 186 and never get a code, for my one time at the track I kept a steady 188-190. Now I don't know if the extra 5-10 degrees gives the car a little extra pep for you or not, but you may want to swap to the slightly warmer t-stat just to avoid having to clear the code all the time.

You may be able to get that 12.9 this fall, keep rockin'!

    thanks eric,

I read from Meister that every 10* is a .1th...but he did mention that that was anything over 190*...so, maybe your right...I'll try the 4128 motorad...just sort a sucks having to re-learn everything...

How do you calculate the da? or corrected horsepower. It was 83* and about 700 ft.....thanks boss!!

A couple options to get at it depending on what humidity measurement you have and we need to get an altimeter setting of some other pressure measurement from the area. Once you get your da, convert your times here it here:

What's the closest airport to the track? I can help if you need it.

The DA was in the neighborhood of 2600 feet, your best of 13.27@110 converts to about a 12.8@113.5!!!!!!!!

UUMMMMMMMMMM........ ( tail between my legs )...................well, I convienently rememberd my best et and trap speed.....unfortunately, they were on different runs.

So, After looking at my time slips...the 13.27 run actually had a trap of 106.5.....So I'm guestemating an adjusted maybe a 12.9? 13? make sence????

Times and speeds are corrected separately. Check out this link again:

    http://www.hardtail.com/techtips/altitude.html

Go to 2600 feet and multiply your speed by the correction factor. Funny how the best et's aren't always associated with the best trap speeds.

You've got more speed in there still.

Keep coming until your engine temp is 165. To do this, turn your car heater on full blast. Turn your fan mod on. Every 5-7 minutes, turn the engine on just long enough to stir the coolant around - maybe 30 seconds. I leave it on just long enough to get my voltage back up to 13 volts.

Your ideal engine temp should be about 165 when you start your drive around the water box. By the time you do a brief burnout and stage, your engine temp should hit 170 degrees.

Your goal should be to launch with the engine temp right at 170.
I'd put money on shaving an additional .10 seconds off your current best 1/4 mile time, even with the same density altitude.
