Very informative Oil Filter analysis without flow numbers...

For purely comparison basis and to see what the heck is inside these little hardworking worts on my motor I googled oil filter comparison and got this great site. Because there are so many different variables with flow rate and valvetrain situations the author felt that such a comparision in htat kind of detail would be inconclusive.

This link at least lets you know what is crap and what is considered better for your precious motor. I am glad my pureone faired well with a ton of filtering area and solid construction for bypass, etc. but concernes over a tight packed media (tons of folds and filtering media) were a cause for slight restriction concerns.

The Frams I used to spin onto my Fords and Chevys years ago turned out to be the biggest crap in all of the filters researched and many like Quakers State use the same exact setup. Cardboard end rings, glued in media, etc.

Decide for yourself and check the link within the story to find the actual numbers and specifications for all the major brand out there.

    COOOL!

Cool, I am glad you all got something out of it as well. I never knew there were actual tools or lathes to just open 'em up like a can opener! Instead of just throwing them out when I am done with 'em it would be great to see what kicked up in there over the course of the last few months/miles. That would be a huge piece of evidence of how your car is doing over an extended amount of time.

    Coolness,

Beans for you. Great find. Admins: Let's start a oil thread somewhere with links to all the quantifiable information about oil. We sould have a link to the oil bible, a link to an oil analysis of Virgin Mobil 1, Virgin Amsoil, and other samples...

I would be glad to donate the data from my Amsoil 5w20 tests to a thread like that... I know oil is a big heated argument for some, but if we could have a moderated thread with some sticky information in the first post... mainly links to analyses and such it could be really useful for folks.
