    U1417 - "Unknown"...

Got a slight grinding feeling feeding back in my brake pedal, then ESP and ABS lights (nothing else) and this code. Cleared the code, got about four blocks, same thing happened again so I parked it. Weather was cold but dry. Only other code was a P0300 Random Misfire but that pops up once every month or so from the cam.

I searched and consulted some other members. Ekaz pointed me to a thread on Chargerforums where the cause ended up being a loose axle nut (that scares me). Couple threads here lean toward wheel speed sensor.

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this code more recently, and if so, what was the cause/fix? Going to pull my drivers side rear wheel when I get a chance and check the axle nut (no time w/ holiday madness this weekend) but if that's not it, then I doubt I'll be able to diagnose as that would leave electrical gremlins...

I got that code and it's brother, U1418, Right Wheel Speed Improbable, when I went through the traps at the Texas Mile at 182+MPH. My axle nuts were tight as hell though. Staying below 182 MPH has cleared things up for the moment.

Hey pal, you have no room to talk yet. When are we fixing that, anyway?

LOL... well, I assure you that wasn't my problem Wish it was! But interesting... so yours may have been a genuine case of "what the f*** is going on?" on the computer's end. Hmmm... That kind of supports what I've been starting to think - the code is incredibly vague and not very helpful at all

For a complete wiring diagram Refer to Section 8W

    • When Monitored:

    • Ignition on.
    • Set Condition:The PCM gets an implausible signal over the CAN C circuit from the ABS Module or FCM (NON-ABS). The circuit is continuously monitored.
    Possible Causes
-VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR FAULT ACTIVE IN ANTI-LOCK BRAKE MODULE
    -CAN C BUS CIRCUIT SHORTED
    -CAN C BUS CIRCUIT OPEN
    -ABS MODULE
    -PCM

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING).
    Theory of Operation

The ABS Module or FCM (NON-ABS) sends an implausible distance signal over the CAN C Bus circuit to the PCM.
    Diagnostic Test

    1. ACTIVE DTC

NOTE: Diagnose all CAN B and C communication failures before continuing.
    Ignition on, engine not running.
With a scan tool, read DTCs.

Is the U1417-IMPLAUSIBLE LEFT WHEEL DISTANCE SIGNAL RECEIVED active at this time?

    Yes
    • Go To 2
    No
    2. ABS MODULE IS ACTIVE ON THE CAN C BUS

With the scan tool, select ECU View.
Verify that the ABS Module active on the bus.

Is the ABS Module active on the bus?

    Yes
    • Go To 3
    No
    • (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING) for No Response diagnostic procedures.
    • Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST – VER 1.
    3. DTCS STORED OR ACTIVE IN THE ABS MODULE

Check for wheel speed DTCs in the ABS Module or FCM (NON-ABS).

Are any DTCs active or stored in the ABS Module/FCM?

    Yes
    • Refer to the appropriate section and perform the diagnostics for the DTCs.
    • Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST – VER
    No
    • Go to 4
    4. ACTIVE DTCS IN THE FCM

With the scan tool, select ECU View and select FCM.
With the scan tool, read active DTCs.

Are any Communication DTCs active in the FCM relating to the ABS System?

^^^ Hmmmm..... "With the scan tool"... that means I'm paying someone to look at this (assuming the axle nuts are tight)?

Well here's a sad update... I believe my tone ring is damaged to the point that the sensor is starting to have a hard time reading it. I won't say how it happened, only that it's unfortunate that it couldn't stay on the Track Killer axle that was in the car until someone *cough* CMJ *cough* took it back.

Anyone have a spare axle, any trim level?

Same exact symptoms, same exact code.

    Stock axles. Hmmm.

If it's the tone ring, I have no clue how it happened. :(

I had actually pulled that code only once Or it could have been a variation of it. With the abs an brought it to the dealer they said that my abs connector was properly seated. Havent seen the code again in 45k miles.
