transmission clunk when put in gear

Everytime I park my car facing uphill, and apply the parking brake, The next time I put my Magnum into gear it has a nasty clunk. It seems as if my parkbrake doesnt work at all. After I apply it, the car still rolls back as if it were just in park with no park brake applied. Does this happen to anyone else??

next time you park on a hill, try applying the parking brake, then shifting into neutral and releasing the service brake to allow the vehicle weight to rest on the park brake mechanism before shifting into park.

if the vehicle will not stay immobile with only the park brake engaged, you'll need to check/repair/adjust the park brake system.

What he said. My Brothers driveway is on a slight hill. When I visit, while still in drive I apply the parking brake, release the brake pedal (the parking brake holds the car) and then I select park. On the occasions I forget to do this there is a clunk when going into reverse. I tried backing in without using the parking brake and I get the clunk.
