    Tools

    Welp I have mentioned a few times about some tools that my dad used on my car for various things, so I thought I would post up some picks.





    This is basically a big rubber eraser from wurth. Use it in a variable speed drill and once you have the emblem off and there is just sticky crap left you carefull take this and run it over the area and it pulls the adheasive crap off.

    It's hard to burn the paint, but you can if you press too hard or hold it on the spot too long.

    When I used on the spot where the HEMI badges were I had to rub the paint a bit as there were a few small scratches I am guessing from some road grunge stuck to the sticky stuff.

    Picked up a proper impact socket for the lug nuts and talked to the tool guy about a Torque Bar. This neat thing is great for the wrench apes that love to "snug" the lugs down this will not allow them to put more the 100ft lbs on them



    and



    So the Impact Socket and Torque Bar ended up cost about $50

    just so you know, torque spec on LX wheel nuts is 110 ft/lbs

    Yea, I know. I couln't find a bar with a 110 rating. My major concern was over tighting and warping the rotors.

    But I have the Bar and a proper torque wrench that stay in the car at all times, so my hope is they use what I provid If they dont have it.

    I got a cigarette lighter adapter powered lug wrench by cashing in my Marlboro miles. Neat little thing, spins up and then engages a clutch to get lugs on and off. Then I got to thinking about the 110 ft/lbs recommended for our lugs. Went over to my buddy's shop and hooked it up. Pulled a wheel and then put it back on letting this thing torque the nuts on until it clicked. Then we put a torque wrench on to see where they were at. Moved the adjustable torque wrench to 100 and it just clicked, ok. Set it to 110 and same thing, BIG uh oh. Set it to 120 and hooray, you had to lean on it! Looks like this little made in China POS is set pretty dang close to 110. I have no idea who makes it or anything, it has the Marlboro emblem on it and nothing else but if you can get one it looks like it would be pretty handy to have if you want to rotate your own tires real quick with a floor jack and this unit and get all your lugs torqued right the first time. Not sure if the ones I've seen in stores are set to the same torque specs.

    Ok I did my 6k Oil change and tire rotation today. All I can say is I love my Torque bar, that damn thing rocks.

    I tested it out with a beast of an Impact driver, The mechnic said it would put about 250 ft/lbs out.

    I put the Toruqe bar on it after swapping tires around and hammer the hell out of the lugs. NOT A 1 OVER 100lbs A quick tweak with the toque wrench and all was good.

    I have to say - get one of these and keep it handy, money well spent.

    Here is a tool we all need ! Tomorrow is my 40th and I got a 4 post lift for my birthday. Now I need to redo the garage and make more space.

    I got a Backyard Buddy 4 post lift about 15 years ago when I restored my MGAs and '37 Cord roadster. I've used it to install the Borla dual exhaust on my R/T and then the R/T exhaust on my wife's SXT. It's great for oil changes and any other under car work. I was going to sell it when I sold the Cord but I'm glad I kept it now.

    OK added a few more tools to the arsenal :

    Low Profile Alumium Jack


    BBH founds this, then I found the same jack at Pep Boys as well. Decently made, does a good job on jacking the car up. Mine has a slight seal leak but it's not a huge deal.

    Cordless 1/2 Impact :


    I'll have some more info on this soon, I just wanted something for breaking the lug nuts off the car and run them down. I wouldnt suggest this for more than that, get a real one from Snap On or Dewalt or Sears.

    Now that a lot of people are playing with thier seats You need an inverted torxs tool for getting the driver side bolts and the seal belt anchores undone that is a

    Also a Torque Wrench I suggest that you get something that will get down to 30# ( seats and sensors ) to 110# for lugs

    Get is one from sears :

    Torgue Wrench 25 to 250 ft. lb. in 2 ft. lb. increments. @ $100

    Sears links wont work worth a crap oh well...

    110# Torque Stick


    1/2 TORQ STICK LT. PUR 110 LB
    • Torque wheel lug nuts to the correct torque on foreign and domestic cars and light trucks.
    • 1/2" Drive female end attaches to your impact gun and the 1/2? male drive attaches to your impact socket.
    • Prevents over-torquing of wheel lug nuts which can cause brake pulsation and distortion of wheels, drums and rotors.
    • This extension is rated for 110 ft.-lbs. and is light purple in color.

    I think that corvers most stuff.

    The links to shops for just shops that I managed to find them at. I am sure you can find them else where as well.

    Update on the Impact Driver

    I broke out the new cordless impact and put the 13/16's impact socket on and attacked the lug nuts. While it didn’t zip with off with ease, it hammered them a little and broke them loose without much problem. I also reinstalled using the Torque Stick and again no isses. So for a day at the track for serious work with high torque loads it maybe not been the best but for $99 it is damn hard to beat.

    More test will be on the plate for this thing of the next week or so.

    Hey Rob - this was just the thing I was looking for when I posted about tools a couple months back! I haven't taken the seats out in that time, so I haven't missed it, but this is exactly what I was after!
