    Unhappy Todays Stupid Mistake....

Well thought I would post here... I was on the expressway here in McAllen, TX and was going 98 in a 50 zone and spotted a state trooper as i came over the overpass hill passing traffic...

I knew I had been speeding looked down at my speedometer noticed the speed went HOLY CRAP.. and slowed down immediatly and parked right in front of the trooper because I knew I was busted... His lights were only on for half a second, he never needed to move his car....

He pulled up next to me with a big smile on his face and I told him heres my license and insurance.. didnt even need him to ask and told him yes I realized I was speeding so yup I did it.

He asked if I have ever been arrested I said no... and he just gave me a speeding ticket...

Here in texas we dont have any "excessive speeding" rules.. ie theres no felony for speeding but they can write you off as "reckless driving" that carries jail sentance and is a lot worse if the trooper feels inclined but I am assuming since I coughed up, and he never had to give chase that he just left it as a speeding ticket...

I really dont know why I was going that fast.. really wasnt even trying.. and didnt even know it.

This is my second month driving the car and just sometimes you really can not tell without looking at the speedo how fast your going. Its no excuse I realize that.. but just posting my stupid mistake for the week on here.... There went a weeks salary for trying to get to work on time.

Hey EG, sorry to hear about your encounter with Johnny-Law, but you certainly did the right thing! And it is way too easy to speed in these cars.... Better luck next time.

    Hi,
I got pulled over yesterday going 52 in a 40. However the cop was friendly and let me off. These things seem to attract a lot of attention from the cops.

A lot of attention but a lot of good will as well. Many here have tales of being treated fairly at least. Some have even gotten the get-out-of-ticket-free pass after about 10 or 15 minutes of showing off their LX. But, for sure, they do like to go and it's up to all of us to hold onto the reins, these babies were born to run.

I wasn't driving an LX (expecting delivery of my Magnum RT end of month) but this is a good story anyway. I was going 82 in a 65 zone (Mass Pike) following a rather large SUV. As we passed the trooper, I immediately slowed and pulled into the right lane, other car keeps motoring on as if nothing happened. Trooper comes out passes me, and pulls over the SUV. "Lucky Me!" But, alas, he flags me over as I go by him.

Anyway, I have license and registration ready when he gets to me. He tells me "I clocked you at 82, yatta, yatta, yatta." I say "Yes, sir, I was driving too fast."

Now, the good part.... when he comes back to my car, he tells me that he had to write a ticket because he had already called it in but he wrote the ticket for "Failure to Obey a Posted Sign"!!! $50 instead of what would have been $250 and no points on my license.
    RIP Hooters.

It's way too easy to just cruise along and not realize how fast you're going. I keep it to 5-7 mph over the limit and with cruise control. It's safer around here. In town, it's always the limit. I've seen too many drive like maniacs and too many near misses.

I got 2 tickets in my RT magnum the first 2 months I had it..
that was June of 2004 when they were brand new and none on the road.. One was for 12 over, the other 13 over...

I actually got a calabration done and had it "motified" so it showed it was off and got out of the ticket

I've only got one ticket ( 65 km/hr in a 50 ) but since it was a photo radar I wasn't able to use my charm on any cop. I agree that driving over the limit is so easy with these cars and I have dodged ( hee hee ) a live ticket several times. My only hope is that, once I am caught, it's only 15-20 mph over and not the 25-30 I normally drive.
