I had a deal with my daughter. If she met a certain high academic standard over her last two years of high school, I would buy her a used car for university this coming fall. (She is attending a school 3 hrs away from home).
Well she beat and exceeded her end of the bargain and has loved the look of the 300 for almost two years now. My stipulation: it had to be a 3.5L car; Hers: it had to be black.
We found a great 2005 300 Limited, black with nav and side air bags (I was happy) and Boston Acoustics (she was happy) at a Chrysler dealership in Smiths Falls (one hour from Ottawa, Ontario and four hours from Toronto where I live.) So we travelled to Smiths Falls Friday night to have a look at the car on Saturday and possibly drive it home.
FnkyChkn, that great guy, offered to travel on a Saturday and check out the car for us. Pete--I can't thank you enough for taking time from your weekend to come and see us and help us out. Folks, this is a class guy through and through. Thanks Pete.
Well as you can see below, the car is beautiful, it was sold and serviced at this dealership. One owner, a funeral director. The car has 54,000 km (34,000 miles) and has been well cared for. 'Gently used' is the term Fnky gave it.
Left to Right: Fnky, C Diddy (my daughter), me (hemiwagn)
With the help of Token and Jaak she has already been collecting mods. The C Diddy plate was a couple of years ago. After getting the windows tinted
before we took delivery, the first installed was the tinted tails and she had me shave the 300 trunk emblem and dealer logos as soon as we got home:
Next install will be a 300SRT subwoofer and chome door handles. She is saving for wheels now, although personally I like the ones it came with.
I think she likes the car:
Today, I had the greatest fathers day ever. Token came over and we gave the C Diddy the full Zaino treatment:
Dawn wash, clay bar, Z-PC, Z5, Z16, Z2, Z16. Plus Zaino leather cleaner and treatment.
Dave, I cannot thank you enough man. You spent the entire day with us cleaning a car. You love to do this stuff and it shows, but that does not mean we don't appreciate it. You made this a special one man, gave the car the look only you can deliver and we even had the teenager working! (although she seemed to tire of it after a few hours....) Thanks Dave, it was great spending the day with you playing with my kid's car!
Here is a shot of the finished product, look at the reflection in the hood!
And a shot of the sides of C Diddy and token's car (hemimetl) with the wheels of one reflected in the other:
Finally, I called this thread "And then there were three....".
Here's why -
We are now fortunate to have a maggie, charger and now a 300.
And how about this picture with token's R/T in the gaggle of black LX's?
Pretty damn cool, methinks.
Chrysler should be proud. These cars are outstanding in their own right, but the effect on people goes way beyond transportation in a cool car. Look at the friendships formed because of the common interest. I met Token and Fnky and Jaak, now great friends through this board. People who take time out of their busy lives to help you out. Pretty cool. And then there is the appeal of these cars. From my teenage daughter who has been lusting after one for nearly two years to her old man who has dropped his Camaro habit for them. These are the 'good old days' right now folks. I don't think it is going to get much better than this.
Except of course for the illegal photo shoot that Token inspired, but that is for another thread tomorrow....
