    Technician's Checklist - DRL enabling

Here, for easy reference by any Mopar service writer or technician with access to the StarSCAN tool, is the Technician's Checklist. Suggest you print a copy for presentation to your service writer.

Technician's Checklist - Daytime Running Light (DRL) enabling:

    1. Verify your StarSCAN unit has been updated via update CD to version 6.03 or higher and displays "6.03" (or higher) in the upper RH corner of the display screen.

    2. Enter Vehicle Preparation menu.

    3. Select DRLs.

    4. Select Enable (Note: some vehicles may already show Enabled, if so select Disable, then re-Enable.)

    5. Select Disable. You will hear an alert chime and see various warning lights appear on the instrument panel.

    6. Select Enable.

    7. Start engine. Manually select headlamps to Off with light switch*.

    8. Visually confirm DRLs on (High beam lamps partially illuminated). Note: DRL will extinguish with turn signal blinking, selected side. This is normal.

*Note for forum users: The instruction to manually de-select headlights (switch not in Auto or Headlight) is included to insure that the headlights won't be on during the attempt to visually verify that the DRLs are enabled. With the headlight switch in Auto and the car inside a service bay the headlights will frequently be on. Headlights always over-ride DRLs, and would thus keep the DRLs from showing - not good if one is attempting to visually verify that DRLs were, in fact, enabled.

Reminder: With engine running, the DRLs will be illuminated anytime that the car's headlights are not on regardless of the position of the light switch, whether day or night. They cannot, in fact, be commanded off via the light switch, only replaced by head lamps.

    REPOST QUESTION:

My dealer just informed me that it is impossible to activate anything that the car did not come with.
They can not activate DRL's or Headlights on with wiper blades.
I gave them the instructions from post and they said, "Anyone who doesn't know what they are talking about can put anything on the Internet. Your care is not set up to have [DRLs or head lights on with wipers] and it can only be done by rewiring your car and adding the options. It is not worth the cost. Watch out what those Internet people say because they will void your warranty."

Anyone know of a dealer in Wisconsin that is not a complete tool? Pleas PM me if you do.

hahaha, almost all chrysler cars from around 2000 on are all programmed daytimes. meaning you "activate" it via software, not hardware like the old days.

Wow, I think I would have insisted he hook up the starscan in front of me and show me it not working. Then I would have told him how much of a douche bag and/or moron he is. I have no patience with people who take no pride in their work and who have no respect for the customer. Can someone explain to me why Chrysler is in the crapper again?

There is a way to use the StarScan to turn on fogs with high beams but only for 2004-2007 model years. So far no one has figured it out for 2008's or if it's even possible for 2008's. Not sure about 2009's.

Fogs + high beams is a separate setting from DRL's. Not related.

It appears the StarMobile and StarScan firmware is changing. The last update I had on my StarMobile, removed the capability to change options such as these right on the tool, on LX cars. I haven't checked if the software still allows it, but I know on newer models the configuration has to be updated in Chryslers database and then it's loaded in to the car.

Fortunately the tool can be "downgraded" to a previous version, but that is time consuming and I doubt most techs would know what to do, or take the time to do it.

It is possible when a tech says the tool won't allow it, for him to be right.

Went to the dealer. We sat in my car with the Starscan. There is no option at all for DRL's or fog lights. The menu looked different then the photos on page 1.

We had software v 9.03. Now what?

    go under vehicle preparation.
    enable daytime running lights.
    click "enable", then continue.
you may have to change the country code which is also under vehicle preparation. then set it to canada. this will allow for DRL's.

The last update that was done to the StarScan slowed it down substantially. The StarMobile update was to prepare the unit for the new WiTech system. The old desktop client is still around for another 6 months, until the WiTech interface completely replaces it.
