    Sunroof rattle question.

I remember reading a fews posts a while back regarding the sunroof rattling. I also remember there was a TSB to replace the retainers.

Here is my question for those who have had this problem. Would it rattle all the time no matter what position it was in or was it only in specific positions?

Mine only rattles when in the vent position. If it is entirely open or closed there is no rattle. I padded the air deflector which didn't work. I even went as far as removing the air deflector but the rattle is still there.

Funny things is if I jam my fingers between the base of the sunroof and the roof panel when in the vent position the rattling stops.

Any help in this matter is appreciated. I suspect I have the defecting mounting hardware per the TSB.

BINGO! Same problem, I just don't use the "vent" position... not an answer, but it's not just you anyway...

At least I am not alone. However, the vent position is the one I use the most.

I found my rattle to be the ceiling cover that gives a "fake roof" you slide back in forth. Doesn't sound like you are having the same problem as me though.

Don't deal with it if it's under warrenty. Take it in!

I hate Rattles. I had one awhile back that sounded like I had crickets living in the dash. After 3 times to the dealer, they finally found it. It rattled with the guy that was going to fix it in the car but after I left it with him on 2 separate occasions, he no longer could duplicate it. It seemed to only happen when I was in the car. The dude was with me and heard so I knew I wasn't on crack. It ended up being a loose clip near the front passenger speaker. you know that they mostly use the padding that you would put under chairs and such. Pad on one side, tape on the other.

I had this in my mag as well. What mine turn out to be was the actual bolt that holds the sunroff mechanism to the roof had worked it way loose.

It was actually a pretty simple fix. What I did was removed the bolt applied some lock tite and put the bolt back in. No more rattles. The front bolt on the passenger side was the one that worked its way loose on my car.

Please PM me with any events that you think Ontario LXer's might be interested in.

A true hot rodder wouldn't be content until he had created a car so violent, so hairy, so totally sick that the very act of dropping the hammer would result in instant death. Anything less results in the need to go faster.

I will probably make an appointment since car is under warranty. Most mechanics don't care when taking anything apart at a dealership. They will crack/bend/scratch panels at will. I usually will invest some time to not only avoid the dealership but I also enjoy the challenge of problem solving.
