Stuttering on Acceleration? No code being thrown...

I am having a stuttering problem with my 2005 Magnum R/T.
    34500 miles.
Seems to be ESP, because problem is not as bad with ESP off.
    Engine light is on.
Car stutters on acceleration - anytime from 0 to 40 mph. I've only driven it about 3 miles since this started.

I took it into the dealer, and they feel the problem, but there's no new codes being thrown (even tho the engine light is on...)

Any ideas? I'm afraid to drive it.

BTW - A car near me threw some debris into my path about 10 days ago -

Could this wonderful thing going under the car have caused the damage???

i had that happen twice. just momentary, but happened. of course couldn't be replicated at the dealership. hasn't done it since either. if you get yours figured out, let me know what the outcome is. i'll check that on mine too then.
    cheers.

Tranny leaked. Seal was replaced about 9 mos ago.

Dealership said all codes were stored codes.
Could be a diag. software bug. I found one in Chrysler's SW several years ago, too...

A code will go to stored status if the condition that set it does not happen again in specified amount of time. Does it say on your paperwork what the stored codes were? Did they clear the codes and was the light off when you got the car back? If it was and the light came back on...they arent stored any more, they will be active now.

Engine light = codes. ALWAYS unless their is a PCM problem. Either way, they should fix the light being on whether or not it relates to the shuddering.

Shuddering could also be water, but you will not know until all the codes are fixed.

    Update...
Got it back from the dealer. They said it was a cylinder misfiring, and they wanted to replace all the plugs and flush the injectors. They also said it only happened cold, so let it warm up...
    Didn't seem right to me.

We picked the car up - got on the freeway - and guess what. Stuttering started all over again. Pulled up to a stoplight. Put it in neutral, engine running smooth. Put it in gear, it's moaning, groaning, and shaking...

Car cools off, runs fine. Warms up, starts all over again. I throw it into diag mode, and find that the problem starts at about 195 degrees F.

I drive it for a couple of days. It finally dies completely, about 6 blocks from the dealer. I sit for over an hour waiting for a tow. Of course the car cooled off. The dealer can't find the problem. They finally let it warm up, and sure enough- they can see the problem. But the "tranny expert" is out for the weekend. They have the car through yesterday, finally find it's the
    crankshaft position sensor.
Ok. Car seems to be running fine. However, I still don't trust 'em!

    Thoughts?

mumzie, did they replace the crank position sensor? Or did it "cure itself"?

    They replaced the sensor.

It surprises me that the problem could be caused by a sensor - when the problem was soooo temperature sensitive.

Well, it was running fine since I picked it up on the 6th or so. Saturday, the 15th, it decides to start idling rough. I slipped my foot off the brake - the car SURGED forward like it was at full acceleration. Thank GOD no pedestrian was in front of me.
The RED traction light and the EPS light on the dash both came on. I took it back to the dealer.

Now they say it was a firmware update that will fix the whole problem. Yeah, right.
I'm now completely freaked out. I don't want to drive it. They want to send their tech home in it tonight, and the service manager home in it tomorrow night. I personally don't care if I ever see the car again -the surge scared the wits out of me!!!

The worst part of the whole thing - the real "fighting words" - I referred the service writer to lxforums - he said "that's a public website. I don't think much of it. I work for Chrysler, and I will listen ONLY to the techs Chrysler hires to do the real work."

He COMPLETELY lost any respect I might have had for him. The 3 other major problems I've had with the car were all diagnosed courtesy of this forum - and he knows it!!!

GRRRRRR>.... Any one want to buy a slightly used magnum?

Mine has surged from the day I started using Superchips. All updates have been done, I just learned to stop with my foot resting fully on the brake (it is enough for me, big foot). I have written it off as a characteristic of the beast with SC!
