I got a call from a buddy yesterday who was stuck at a coffee shop with ignition switch problems. So, I grab some tools and jump in my car and drive over there to see if I can help out.
The problem is that the key will not turn out of the lock position towards on or start. The shifter is in park and yes it's the right key and power is on.
Ok, so I figure it's the the pink thingy cable adjustment that's out of whack and dismantle the console and shifter to get at the cable. (this part freaked him out)
So, now I have access to the cable and start to move it in and out of the jacket while my buddy is trying to turn the key.
No go, the f''ing key will not turn.
I'm open to any ideas why the key won't turn but personally I think his ignition lock is screwed. Am I right or did I miss something????

I have had this happen before on different cars. If the wheel is in the lock position and it is all the way to the left or the right, the key would not turn. Try moving the steering wheel while turning the key. It's worth a shot.

the LX cars do not have a steering wheel lock, so that doesn't apply..
remember the ignition key isn't on the column, it is on the dash..
try flipping the key upside down, but I suspect it is the cable you are talking about, but the connection on the back side of the ignition module, not the gear shift.

Sorry I didn't back here sooner. Complete network crash at home. I think you're right Mr. I, I was hoping that tweaking the cable (push/pull/twist) at the shifter would work it's way back up to the switch. It went off to the dealer on the 17th but I've no feedback on what the problem turned out to be.
I think the ignition switch took a crap and needs to be replaced. Happened to me once in my old Camaro. Had to have a locksmith come out and switch it.

IMO, it's the actual lock tumbler assembly has gone south. A member local to me, called me up a few months ago for a tow. Claims her car would not start. Key goes into switch, but no go. To compound issues, her car is now stuck in the run position. I show up and sure nuf, key goes in, will rotate, dash lights up...but it's a no start. Luckily it'll allow the car into N and onto the flatdeck she goes, headed to the dealership.
She calls me a day or two later, telling me the dealership replaced her key lock assembly. The spring let go and froze all actions. Covered under warranty, have a good day!!
Hope this helps.
Thanks guys. The flatbed thing is one of the reasons I tore the shifter apart so I could get it into neutral. That part was sucessful.
