    SRT let down?

Hey all I am new around here. I am kinda in the market for a Magnum. I currently have a Scooby Turbo Forester that I am in the process of selling (I think I sold it tonight). I am sold on the utility of a wagon and I want a fast fun to drive one. Which is what brought me the Magnum.

I sold a 01 Lightning to get the forester and I have missed it every day since. So I figured a SRT should give me the same jollies as the lightning did. Well tonight I test drove a 300C SRT8 since I could not find any magums close by. Both the wife and I said it did not have the same sweet pull as the lightining did. I figured they would be a similar weight and the SRT acutally has more ponnies than the L. Don't get me wrong it was quick and the seats and brakes rocked.

Is a tunner needed to bring these cars to life?

Or am I just a boost junkie?

There's no doubt the lighting is one of the fastest pickup trucks around (if your not considering the SRT10), but it doesn't compare to a SRT8. What your probable feeling is the difference between a natural aspirated engine and that of a supercharger, regardless, the lightning has less horse power (although more tq), heavier and slower in the quarter mile than a 300C SRT8--no if and or butts about it.

I think the diffrence is your truck has a more tq off the line and seems quicker, but after an 1/8 of a mile or so you'll see the tail lights of the srt8 pass you by, about 0.3 tenths of a second in the quarter mile.

Get the SRT8, best "full sized, 4 door" muscle car you'll ever buy.

Was the lightning modded? Are you sure you didn't test drive a 5.7? The SRT should feel like a monster compared to a lightning.

I am sure it is the lack of instant positive atmosphere that you were used to in the L.

Remember too if the car was not driven hard the PCm learns that and the car will feel like a slug.........try and see if the dealer will pop the battery for a few seconds......then go drive it.....bet its a different animal.

where exactly did you drive it? in the city during rush hour? i picked up my MSRT and smile the whole 1250 miles back home.

if a SRT dont make you happy, i dont see how you could have stayed in a forrester more than 1 month.

    caution

the 6.1 is so smooth and quiet in stock form it fools a lot of people.

Can't judge cars by the seat of the pants.

I used to have an old firebird with a 455 in it that shifted at 5 grand, felt kinda slow on the street. With a good driver it would trap 125 mph!

    the L was stock.

I drove the 300 through town and on the freeway. It was not ruch hour, but there was more traffic than I would have liked.

I think it could have largely felt slower due to the slow smooth shifting. And I am positive it was a SRT8.

It was even cooler seeing an SRT8 with "V6 Magnum" badges on it - THAT cracked me up...

The comment about HAL 'learning' was spot on as well - resetting the adaptives with a battery drop or F11 pull in the front fusebox might have shown you a whole different animal.

That must not have been an srt, a buddy of mine has a 2000 lightning with a tunner and exhaust and I have to admit its pretty quick for a truck but it wont beat an srt8

Wouldn't that be funny if it was the v6 with the SRT8 badging on it...

Maybe this would have been a better picture, can't fake this...

Did you turn off the ESP? Fully?
It's like night and day between having it off and on. An SRT8 is like a kick in the back when you floor it with the ESP off.
