Service Ramp Advice Needed

I need a set of service ramps. I just do NOT get any kind of warm glow from crawling around under a car held up by jackstands. OK so I'm a wuss. Fine. What I want is a set of ramps that will work with a lowered Magnum (I can cheat wih a couple blocks o' wood) and which lift the car up as high as possible.

Oh and I don't want to spend any real money if I can possibly avoid it.

Whats the best product out there? I'm thinking a set of Rhino Ramps, which appear to lift the car about 9.5". Northern Tool has a set for $55 plus shipping, which I am sure won't be cheap. I know also about Race Ramps but at like $200+ per pair, thats a little rich for my blood.

Any thoughts, anyone?

I have rhinos and i like them. No rubbing under the front bumper, but mine is not lowered like yours.

I have rhino's as well and they are good although my rubber foot is getting a little worn. If theat isn't low enough throw a 2x4 under the fronts to get you over the lip when the front airdam is high enough.

I bought the rhino's at Kragen for a little less than that I believe. I'm not sure how it will work with a lowerd mag though. If you want to try before you buy, I'm just in Lemoore. Let me know.

Thanks but I think I'm good. I have some wooden block ramps (a couple of 2x6's that I woodscrewed together into steps) that I can use if I need to.

I have a Kragen right down the street from my office so thats great news.

No matter what I plan on ramping the rear of the car too with wood. Prolly a 3-step 2x6 that I'll cheat on and get under the wheels with a jack once I'm up the ramps.

My cars have vibrated loose yet AGAIN and I am setting myself up to be able to get under the car and work deep in there.

I fee l more safer under jack stands, at least I know my car won't roll back in a freak moment.

I actually I have some old metal ramps that I use once and a while.

I was thinking of getting a set of chocks while I'm at it on the rollback thing. I've always used a block of wood or something but they're only 10 bucks.

I use ramps bought from Walmart. They work fine. About $30.

Thats what I use now. I use a 2x4x8 as a tire stop in the garage and I just use that, but with what I have in mind that won't work...

Yesterday I bought a set of Rhino ramps. I went to Kragen and all they had were the 8000 GVW (black) ramps... only $39, which is a great price. However sturdy they are rated I wanted to at least look over the beefier 12000 GVW (grey) ramps. Down the street at Auto Zone they had multiple sets of both and I bought a pair of 12000 GVW ramps for $49. They are much sturdier and, for a measly 10 extra bucks, I'll take the extra beef.

They work fine on my lowered car, but just baaaaarely.

But the lift is only 9.5" and I want more than that. So a trip to Home Depot gave me a plan, which I will see if I can put into play today.

Rhino ramps are 12" wide and about 3' long. Buy 2 2x12x10 doug fir boards ($16 each). Cut the boards at HD (two cuts are free) so I wind up with two 6' and two 4' lengths (they now fit into the car). Go home and, with a circular saw, to a 45-degree miter cut on the leading edges of the boards so I have a ramp face... I already know that un-mitered boards like to slide unless I gas it. Screw them together with my trusty Makita (thanks to a rickety fence I have plenty of phillips head fence screws) and I have a solid ramp to set the ramps onto, and now a little over a foot of lift.

I can use my existing 2x8 2-step mini ramps for the rear wheels to get the car further up and comfy to creep around under. When I get energetic I can use a single 2x12x10 board for another small set in the back thats wide enough to take 100% of the tire width.

What I really need is a freaking extra garage stall with a lift. Memo to me when rich and famous: big garage in mansion a must.
