    Neither.

It passes all certification requirements. They're is nothing special about it (or Amsoil) to justify the price. Buy the cheapest major maker syn at Wallyworld. Be prepared, you're going to get 5000 posts of "Hey, I use it. Nuttin' broke."

Passing certification does not mean anything. Would you want a doctor that graduated last from his class, or first from his class, if it was a matter of a risky operation?

I havn't heard anything bad about it, but I definitely would not go the cheapest route, not that there is one between the three oil's availible in 0w-40

Read this about motorcycle oils. It doesn't rate royal purple that high.

Also, most "synthetics" including Mobil 1 are not true synthetics. They explain it very well in this study.

I've used it. It's good but not worth the price. Switched back to Mobil 1.

I use it, no issues yet. Not so sure it is better than everyone else's oil. It certainly is expensive. Too early to say if it is the ULTIMATE oil. Lol. Opinions will vary, and it will all come down to personal choice. I work/live near a local dirt race track and almost every racer uses Royal Purple.

Bad analogy. Passing certification means that it meets the standards set by the manufacturer - folks who understand the lubrication requirements of the particular engine, and know a hell of a lot more about motor oil than the average consumer. Provided you're holding up your end of the bargain as owner / maintainer of the vehicle by using a decent filter and following the prescribed changing intervals, anything more than "passing certification" is overkill.

My wife says my driving everyday is more like racing. Lol. I have not noticed any improvements or any disadvantages using Purple.

Same for me as well. Since I change my oil every 3500 miles or so it doesn't justify the price...or at least in my mind.

I have been running it in all of my cars since 99. Low and behold nothing has broke. Unbeknownst to me my wife put 13k miles on her oil on my last deployment (she thinks it only needs changed if the oil light comes on), no issues whatsoever.

Not really trying to argue, but I do disagree. To be 'certified' to fire a rifle in the Army, you need only hit 23 out of 40 targets, because a whole bunch of people that have a lot more experience then me said that is plenty. Does this mean I wouldn't mind having a platoon of people that barely meet this standard? Hell no, I want everyone that is around me watching my back to hit everything they are shooting at, not just half of them.
