    Royal Purple 5w30

O.K, after searching for a while, I have still found no real answer.

The issue is, I bought the 5w30 by accident and before I realized.....the wife had all the bottles opened already. I noticed that some people are running the RP 5w30 since RP tends to be a little thinner than most oils.

All of my changes since I have owned the Mag have been RP 5w20. I have noticed MDS surge on all of my long road trips (1200k miles plus). Not sure if it was due to oil or not.

So, is anyone running this weight of RP with no noticible loss of MDS? I would hate wasting $40 sum bucks on this oil.

I think the surging has something to do with the Diablo tune and MDS. I had the same thing, and was told to disable MDS with the Diablo. Did that and the surging went away.
I got a sweater for Christmas. I wanted a screamer or a moaner.

The oil itself should be OK in the engine, just the PCM should notice and not allow MDS to kick on. I think lots of people had issues early on with oil change places not having the proper oil.

Thans guys, but after reading of the possible 3mpg loss due to the MDS not functioning properly, I decided to go ahead and get the proper weight. Luckily I can use the 5w30 in the wifes BMW.

Picked up Castrol Syntec and now have noticed that my annoying "Hemi ticking" is back. I have been tick free since the first oil change with the RP........and now its back. I may run this oil for 3k and order some RP 5w20 from my shop back in NC, where it only costs me $5.29/qt shipped (compared to Advanced $7.89).

I am interested to see if there is any difference in my MDS surge with this oil, as I don't remember having it before the switch to RP (then again I also didn't have the Diablo either).

I really do hate putting anything other than RP n my cars as I have been using it since aound 1999, and have been very impressed with it. Now just gotta detail her and I will be set.

I had that as well, but Johan at Diablo fixed my tune and now I am surgeless in Seattle!

Yeah, I have seen that link ALOT. However, I don't trust any "study" conducted by a manufacturer, pitting their product against another. I trust independent testing only. I do like the notorized affidavit though : "I hereby affirm that this complete stranger has sworn he did this all legal and all....I have known him for several seconds and trust all that he says".

Nothing against amsoil. I used to use it in my Motorcycles and was happy with it for years.
