RK Sport hood mesh removal?

I have the RK sport hood and it has the silver diamond plate mesh in the opening. Im courious if removing it totally will F' UP anything major. I'd simply use a dremal to cut and smooth it out.
I know its thier for a reason [ to keep trash / bugs out of the intake ]. I was thinking about adding some type of catch screen over the underside of the hood [ where the air drops in top the intake ].
The removal of the diamond plate mesh is more comestic [ imo for my application ].

thought about painting it black?

just a random thought...
even without a mesh, i doubt you will need to really worry about debris
