    Talking A reissue of weirdity!

Ok... I axed this question a long time ago.
BUT since we have a lot more brains a-working together now, I aims to ax it agin!
    That question being thusly this:
Molecular Oxygen is O2, right? 2 atoms of Oxygen welded together.
    SO
Ozonation makes O2 into O3, right?
Wouldnt there be a greater density of Oxygen?

Therefor (and hang folks, its showtime!):
What would be the effect of using Ozonated air in our engines? Would it make more power? Would the fuel burn 'correctly' or, perhaps, better? Is this a dumber idea than squirrel flavored enemas?

Tell me something all you supersmart types out there!

Hammer... Not good, but I think squirrel flavored enemas still takes the cake!

Ozone is NOT just a more dense form of oxygen. It is a negatively charged, reactive and potentially toxic molecule. Ozone has is more oxidative strentgth than oxygen at normal temperatures, i.e., might lead to to pre-ignition (knock) at engine cylinder temperatures. Besides it is a component of smog, i.e., normal engine exhaust contains small amounts of ozone which then "hang" around for very long periods of time. In the upper atmosphere ozone is good (shields us from the sun's UV radiation - thus the "warnings" about ozone holes, etc., by environmentalists). Down to earth it is used only in very small quantities to kill air odors (the little zappers in restrooms, etc.), treat water (kill bacteria), and in certain chemical synthesis reactions, just to name a few. Okay... That's my two cents worth of brainwreck power.

    Yeah... I'm good for that!

Wouldn't the O2 sensor pick up the extra oxygen and trim the injector timing? I might be wrong but I think that the heat and fuel combustion would break apart the O3 and VERY little extra O3 would come out the pipes...or is this a worse concept than the 40-grit condoms I tried to patent years ago?

i dont think the sensor would be able to tell that ozone was oxygen since it has different properties, the most notable is it's highly corossive. O2 is bonded pretty tightly and not very reactive, but O3 is not bonded well and is very reactive. not sure how exactly oxygen sensors in cars work though, ie what exactly is the trigger in the sensor.

im sure there are chemists around here somewhere who can give a definitive answer....

40 grit condoms... they didn't work out? Or it was already patented?

Even if this were a good idea...Where is the world would you get enough 03 to make a difference? Engines use ALOT of air!

I asked a chemist friend of mine, this is what he said -

Ozone IS more reactive than oxygen; Ozone IS O3 and oxygen IS O2; but it wouldn't be nearly as simple as he hopes. It would be very hard on engine components like the rubber and plastic in the intake system, the seals in injectors, etc. It would also likely INCREASE the production of NOx compounds in vehicle exhaust. Could you do it? Yes. Would it make more power? Prolly. But it makes more sense to boost by SC or turbo...

Well, I is one, and have to agree with the friend of crazy. O3 probably would wreck havoc on any vulnerable internals of the intake system (should have mentioned that before).

However, have to disagree Turf (NOT trying to start a "turf" war!) regarding O2 being "bonded tightly" and not very reactive. Pure O2 is highly reactive and dangerous... oxygen is the oxidizer in air which makes fire in the cylinder (it's ain't the nitrogen!). In combination with the oily and heat on one's skin, pure O2 is sufficient to cause spontaneously ignition of those body oils. Our atmosphere is safe mainly due to the 79% nitrogen which dilutes the oxygen we breath. Increase the O2 percentage beyond about 23% and you're asking for trouble with accerated fire hazard. Reduce O2 below 19% and we have trouble breathing and surviving!

I think you screw your engine if did that. Not sure though.

    40Grit condoms ahh ouch!

you know if you found a way to inject liquid nitrogen in your motor, you go faster!!! but you blow within seconds..

I've toyed with the idea of injecting pure oxygen, but I suppose that's what nitrous ultimately does...

I'm not super smart, Rev, but, and you all check me on this, but I'm fairly certain enemas should not have a "flavor". Unless you'all are equipped differently down that'away
