It's been tried. many of the '07 LX's had the camera input on the rear of the NAV, but it would not function in an LX vehicle, it only works when placed into a Jeep.

    VIN coding problem

the Front Control Module (FCM) controls the feature, since it is not coded to an LX VIN the FCM doesn't know to allow it..

so yeah Canbus and Chrysler issue..

2008s with mygig have the feature IIRC

Kind of... More of a FCM (front control module) problem. The FCM tells the rest of the components in the vehicle what the Y/M/M and build details are and those modules behave accordingly. The NAV firmware has been coded to only enable the camera functionality for Jeeps. I know some of the folks who worked on the NAV in-motion hack also took a look at this, but I don't think anything came of it.

I have personally fired up a NAV unit on the bench feeding it CAN data that included a Jeep VIN number and while the startup logo changed from Chrysler to Jeep, the camera functionality still wasn't there. I'm sure I could replicate it on the bench if I took a recording of the Jeep data, but getting that to work while in an LX vehicle would be difficult. Hacking the NAV firmware is probably the best way to accomplish it.

You are correct that their product gives you video on the NAV screen, but it accomplishes it very differently. Their product splices into the actual video lines going to the LCD screen and you feed your video into an external modulator. They do not use the existing camera input on the newer REC model NAV units.

However, their system does work very well and actually gives you two inputs to use. If you want this capability on the factory head unit, this is a very good option.
