    Exclamation Please Buckle-Up Your Kids

This is not an LX vehicle but the morel of the story is still the same:

    http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?sec...cal&id=6115051

This driver was intoxicated and didn't secure her children in the vehicle.
I plea to all drivers: Please buckle your children in the vehicle and never drink and drive.

I don' have any kids and never plan on having them but it just angers me so much to see a story like this. These children might be brain damaged and may not be able to live a regular life after this stupid drivers actions.

OAKLAND, CA (KGO) -- A driver is under arrest, and a baby and a toddler are hospitalized after being seriously injured in a massive rollover crash that closed Highway 4 early Thursday morning.

The two children were flown to Children's Hospital in Oakland. One is a three-year-old who has major head injuries, the other is an infant who was also injured but less severely.
The driver of the vehicle is 23-year-old Nicole Berry of Pittsburg who has been taken to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek for head injuries and placed under arrest for suspicion of drunk driving.

CHP officers arrived at the scene on Highway 4 and Somersville Road at about 1:30 this morning. The SUV crumpled after flipping over with four adults and two children inside. Only the children were ejected. The CHP confirms that had the children been properly secured in the vehicle, they would not have been ejected.
"It was a solo vehicle traveling westbound on Highway 4, west of Somersville and it lost control and overturned several times," said Ofc. Alexander, C.H.P..
Highway 4 was temporarily closed but has since been reopened.

I have 3 kids and the F'ing car doesn't go into gear until they are buckled up and I visually confirm it. Why am I such a PITA you ask. I can replace the car but not them.

Funny thing is they have never once complained about it.

I hate drunk drivers and I find it irresponsible to get behind the wheel regardless being under the legal limit. The limit should be ZERO and that's it. I can't believe people are so irresponsible - not only does she not secure her kids properly which is #1 by a mile when having kids in the car but then she drives while under the influence. She doesn't deserve to be a parent. Hopefully everyone will recover fully.

That just bothers the hell out of me - those kids deserve a better mother than that.

My girls would squawk loudy if I started moving the car before they got their seatbelts on, we trained them well...

If you inforce the seatbelt rule in the car from an early age then you won't have any problems at all. Remember too, lead by example.

My job happens to be injury claims for auto accidents... I can tell you that it does make a big difference wearing a seatbelt when you are in an accident, no matter where the impact is. I did have a claim where the other person had 2 adults and 5 kids in a small car... yes, there was an ambulance and some inj to the kids... it just isn't worth it.

These are the cases that should set the example for suspending a persons driving privledges forever! You want to cut the cost of gas, save on fuel exhaust emissions, make these dumbazzes ride the bus, a bike or walk for the rest of their life. They don't deserve luxuries and privledges anymore. END OF STORY!

This happened just down the road from my house and really close to Talon's place. Sad, just sad. The thing that irritates me even more is there were 4 adults in the car and none of them bothered to buckle up the kids. I know ultimately it was the mothers responsibility but anyone of them could have done it.

the sad thing is that more than half of the people that do have there licences Suspened or Revoked still get behind the wheel bacause they just dont care that they have that piece of plastic on them. thats all it is a peice of plastic and a judge is just some guy and the cops are out to get them. i hate to say it but this is where big brother is needed and there are things we can do to prevent them from getting behind the wheel..

i have friends who have gotten DUI's and to some the counseling and impact boards are just a joke and dont have a impact on them..

The Wife's ex drove to a court date while under suspended lic. I jokingly mentioned it to the Crown Attourney (DA for the US readers). She had him observed and pulled over when he got in the drivers seat. 5000 dollar fine. Crown insisted on max for being stupid enough to drive to a court house. Don't wanna know what his insurance is like.

As to kids and buckles.. Both my kids know the car goes no where until they're buckled in. And in proper seats based on thier size/age etc.

One one hand I don't think it's right for law to mandate seatbelts for drivers 18y.o.+. At that point, if you want to kiss the windshield or sail out the door, that's your call. But kids... my god, how could you not secure them in the car? Seriously?! That should be a serious strike toward losing custody.

Agree 100%. I was stupid back in 86 and got a DUI. I drove on a suspended license also, knowing that if I got caught it was bad news. So I drove way beyond reasonable and careful. But when someone is caught driving without privledges then it must be the hammer.
